I would like to create a set that does not cost too much energy to craft! So far this is what I have come up with, I would like to be a swordsman mainly.
Skolver Cap
Skolver Coat
Barbarous Thorn Shield
Leviathan Blade
Supernova

Discuss and help me create a basic swordsmen set!

Swap out supernova

I think everyone agrees that polaris is better, since what you can't hit with your sword is normally weak to elemental, or neutral to it.

piercing, elemental, shadow

Not bad, but I have some suggestions.

You don't have any elemental armor, or even elemental shield. It's all piercing. So how about replacing one piece of Skolver with one piece of Vog Cub? Also, although Barbarous Thorn Shield is nice, Grey Owlite protects against more statuses, so you should consider it as well. (These are the two most popular swordsman's shields.) Even then, you'll have no shadow protection, but many people have none --- hence all the whining about Tier 3 fiend strata.

Your weapons are not really swordsman's weapons, but I don't blame you for that. My problem is that they're both normal damage. If you haven't already, read the wiki page on Damage. This is the single most important aspect of the rules of Spiral Knights to understand. Basically, you want to wield piercing, elemental, and shadow damage against the correct monsters. Even if you own/carry only two of these, it's nice if they're not normal.

So consider replacing Supernova with Polaris or another elemental gun. The reason is that guns are really useful against turrets, and of the three kinds of turrets two are vulnerable to elemental and the third is neutral to it.

Once you have an elemental gun, consider pairing it with a piercing sword. Use your piercing sword on fiends, beasts, and gremlins. Use your elemental gun on constructs, undead, and slimes. Not bad at all. Or pair your elemental gun with a shadow sword. Use your shadow sword on slimes, gremlins, and beasts, and your elemental gun on constructs, undead, and fiends.
