You can't really put a fixed
You can't really put a fixed number on rare. Functionally, going by what the graph shows anyway, it's just a Wise Owlite without Fire Resist and the elemental and normal defence switched around. Unless the graph lies (which can happen), it has nothing over the Grey Owlite.. aside from it's rarity.
*I* would not pay 1.1M, let alone the 40-70k CE I have seen sellers ask for for one because I put no value in the rarity of a game item. To *me*, it is hardly worth more than a Wise Owlite.
But if you use the old Regalia as a "benchmark" for rare items, the Darkfang Shield would be "worth" a lot more than the 1.1M crown it is said to have gone for.
I don't think there is a "market value" for rare items. Any transaction is based on the subjective value of the highest price the richest player is willing to pay for it at the time of the sale. The next one that appears in AH may go for a lot more because several wealthy players happen to want it at the same time.

But at least most antiques can be deemed "timeless" and can be preserved for generations (and as such, it is slightly easier to get information on past transactions etc.). Besides, not every rare items, or even one of a kind items command huge sums of crowns/hard cash. It all comes down to: does it appeal to those who have the disposable fund available (crowns/cash).
Anyway, interesting as I find, the discussion is sliding off-topic so I'll leave this thread now :)

trashcatt have you ever heard the story of a guy with a similar name, motorcat. he paid 30kce for a quicksilver helm when they were rare drops. month later roarmulous came out and boom token item. i think you're going to be the next motorcat :)

The one in the AH right now is the same one that just sold for 1 mil 10k crowns. If u notice the lowest bid price on the new one is...1,010,000x 1.10. So basically they just tried to resell for at least break even.
