May just be coincidence (or not) but it seems to me that OOO reveres wolves quite a bit. Heres a list of just a few main points:
Wolvers. Creatures in Spiral Knights named after wolves (yet they look more like foxes imho). They are one of the harder enemies to face on Cradle due to their slight randomness in Tier 2 and 3.
In Tier 2 Wolvers gain the ability to quickly dodge most bullets from handguns. Only a few guns are able to ensure hits on them each shot. In Tier 3 this is even harder since now projectiles will cause Wolvers to teleport, leaving a flurry of leaves where they once were and can cover up your view if you're not careful with what you atrack with.
Alpha Wolvers ard known for teir Attack buff, 3 hit devastating, and sometimes fatal, combo attack, and their more scruff and larger appearance. If a Knight is not careful on how they fight Alphas, they will quickly be defeated. One attack hit can halve your health, and 2 will break most shields!
Now for the Wolver gear. The 5* versions, Vog, Skolver, and Snarbolax, each cover one of the main damage types along with normal damage. Each piece of a 5* Wolver equip will give some type of Medium bonus, wether it be Damage bonus or Attack Speed Increase. These are arguably the best equips in the game. Not to mention the Wild Hunting Blade and Barbarous Thorn Blade swords. Both have a hologram, or phantasmal, Wolver or Snarbolax that bites forward on an attack (Barbarous on charge only.) and are the only weapons in-game to utilize this. The Antigua 5*s do this too, but the reference to the gun itself is hardly present in comparison.
The Snarbolax. The levels leading up to the Snarbolax are Wolver/Beast themed. While debate goes on about what the Snarbolax is, I'd say it is a type of Wolver, or beast in general for that matter. This is shown through its Equips, the Snarbolax Coat and Cap requiring an Ash Tail Coat and Cap respectively. Not to mention its the "first boss" in the game and has a good battle schematic. Plus in the Shadow Lairs you have to defeat 2 of them first in order to gain clearance to the next "Tier" of Lairs. Overall a good character for the Spiral Knights universe and gain some respect in the fanbase, too.
Roarmulus Twins. This is a more subtle reference but important to note imo. The name of the boss is a reference to the story of Romulus and Remus, the founders of Ancient Rome in mythology. Long story short, they were 2 infant twins abandoned and taken in and raised by a wolf. They grew and got into an argument over who would rule a city or whatever and Romulus killed Remus, naming Rome after himself.
I'm sure I'm missing something and probably need to edit this OP later, but atm im on my 3DS :P.
So that's that.
This kinda just came to me as a thought, but I decided to post anyway.

Wolvers have been in the game as far back as I can remember, which is quite a while. There's no doubt they are a relatively prominent monster, not to mention all the players who love the Wolver Gear series. ;)
(Off-topic: what's going on with your list tags? They seem to have lost their margins!)
