Reboot time shifted

Is server reboot a scheduled task or a manned operation? If it is not manned, then why is the time affected by daylight saving, which is only implemented in a selected few regions?

I suddenly found the server reboot delayed by an hour... which forces me to reschedule my evening activities, as the new reboot time is in the middle of my time slot dedicated to SK.

I'm going to assume that you mean the daily reboot, which is in the western morning, and therefore that you don't live in the states or Canada?

Going on that, the game is based in the states, and likely the majority of its players. It would only be logical to accodomate the employees (if manned) and other western players who have also built around the assumption that the reboot is at a specific time each day, since the area is affected by daylight savings.

Exactly! If the reboot is not manned, then I don't see a point of following daylight saving... it's in the morning, where few would be playing (school/job). One hour earlier or later makes no difference to US/Canada players -- but on the other hand it affects players on the other side of Earth, since SK is launched internationally. That would be evening/night, right when they are playing.

US or not, free (indirectly promoting sale of CE) or paying, players around the world contribute to the game equally.

Even so, it's probably in the spirit of preserving the status quo. People don't react well to change, and if there must be change then one would think they'd approach it in a please-the-most way.

Honestly though, my arguments are pretty empty, but I think it applies to yours too :) There's no advantage/disadvantage that doesn't negate, I feel.

reboot should local to each time zone SK has servers. or least split the world into thirds or fourths.

@Balarick: That's not

@Balarick: That's not possible... from what I've read, all SK servers are hosted in Amazon's servers, which are in US West coast. As the server provider, Amazon of course would not reboot the servers; the reboot is scheduled by OOO.

Edit:
I I got it backwards - the current reboot time is the "real" one, because daylight savings ended. Which means reboot time is 9am in US, which also means it could be a manned operation.

Hmm

It is probably a scheduled task, set to a specific time. (Rather than being every 24 hours or by the press of a button.) When DST ended, the time on the servers shifted to standard time since they are in the US. So the task still occurs at the same time, at least according to the server.
