Unfortunately, a simple yes or no doesn't quite cover the answer! ...but it's not terribly complicated. ;)
In most cases, yes, an accessory will remain attached when you upgrade a piece of armor. HOWEVER, if the equipment does not have an accessory slot available for that accessory, it will be destroyed. So do your research before upgrading!
