Due to an error because of lag I added an extra ZERO when typing CE into a trade. And the player - Drixiss - Won't return my CE. I've file a complaint and gone to the GM. But this bloody game and it's lag gets me killed in dungeon and now it's costs me in trade. instead of adding more useless [crap] how about these designers perfect what they have?!
I'm so annoyed with this stuff always happening.
LAG! Needs to stop!
Isn't naming-and-shaming not allowed? Should probably take the other player's name out of your post.
Either way, there is a confirmation before a trade happens. If you didn't take the time to confirm the right amount before trading... well, the other player just got really lucky. Trade confirmations are there for a reason, and lag doesn't stop them from working.
As the other two said, there IS a confirm button for a reason. How mug CE was it? 1 and you did 10? 10 and you did 100? 100 and you did 1000? 1000 and you did 10000? o.o
Drixss should return your CE, but you hit trade, so that object (In this case CE) is no longer yours.
Sorry bud. :'(
Best of luck getting your CE back, but you hit trade, so it's their CE fair and square... :[
IT was a loss of 1800CE value in total.
And I suppose it is my fault for not looking closely.
But still this lag is annoying as hell and if he doesn't return it and it is a loss... which it probably is.
It just sucks that most players are dishonest and jerks.
Makes it hard for honest players like me to be nice.
Also he deserves shame, any player does, they should have a forum just for it.
I believe it should be a friendly atmosphere on SK. If you don't agree you're probably one of the above mentioned players.
And if that's the case. Go to Hell. :D And Have a nice day.
I'll give you that the trade window is a little wonky. I don't think most players are jerks or dishonest, but anonymity tends to soften individual ethics.
I'm going to assume that you're just angry. A forum for shaming? Over 5 bucks in CE? You have done as much to violate the 'friendly atmosphere', swearing on the forum and making blanket statements about those who might disagree with you.
Man, better luck in the future.
yeah i would be enraged to (i had to revive in T2 for crying out loud hahaha) and IMF is from now on a no-go for me because of the massive lag there (and only there. when i reach the boss fight it runs as smooth as it can get) but swearing doesn't solve the problem
How could you possibly blame a 4 player game of lag when there's 64 player FPS games out there without any! You should be ashamed of posting this thread!
@Blitz
1. noone is blaming the victim for the lag... they are telling him off because
he is blaming lag for his carelessness... and not taking any personal responsibility
basically blaming something that had a small part to play for something that was fundamentally caused by something else
what if there was no lag at all and he accidentally pushed one extra zero? of course that would be the keyboard's fault
2. so if 64 player fps games that don't lag is the reason why SK shouldn't lag either,
does that mean 1 player flash games that lag like no tomorrow is an excuse that SK should lag?
Drixiss is so freaking lucky to get 1800 CE off a careless person like you. Don't go on complaining about this issue to the GMs, they won't do a **** about it. Believe me, if I was this Drixiss guy, I would take the money and run. xD Don't blame him, he only rose to the opportunity.
But yeah, I dislike that lag that you get when you type in your prices for trading. I ALWAYS check my offered price and click Confirm, you were careless not to.
so if 64 player fps games that don't lag is the reason why SK shouldn't lag either, does that mean 1 player flash games that lag like no tomorrow is an excuse that SK should lag?
So if SK was dial up, that would be acceptable in today's norm of high speed internet?
And that would be one pitiful flash game....are you saying nobody should complain about that flash game being pitiful compared to the other flash games?
No i'm saying you should judge a game on it's own merits and failures, not on some other game's merits and or failures.
Or at least on some industry standards.
I'm saying if you can 'condemn' SK for it's lag based of another games awesome latency, then you should also exemplify SK's lag based on other crappier games.
Otherwise you're just presenting biased information.
Not to mention how much money was thrown at said FPS, and also how FPS servers are intrinsically different from MMO servers.
So i went ahead and sent an in-game message to Drixiss. I told him about this thread, and then congratulated on his free 1800 CE.
Felt like it was the right thing to do. (not to mention; I would love watching an argument like this play out on the forums.)
You and a man are walking down the street. He's fiddling with his wallet and accidently drops a $5 bill. You take the bill and run. He watches you pick up the bill and asks you to return it, but you ignore him and keep running.
To Drixiss and all of those saying that his action is justified, you have no personal integrity and should be ashamed of yourself.
What? I can't tell if you're trolling or not
I don't think anyone here has justified his actions.
I'm not even sure if you've actually read the responses.
and your analogy is missing a lot of detail, and completely misrepresents the problem.
what about the trading involved? or the lag? or the confirm button?
@13
A much better analogy is a person going to a store and giving the clerk 20 dollars when what he wants to buy cpsts 15 dollars. When the clerk asked the person to confirm he wanted to pay 5 dollars more than the price, the guy said "yes, i want to overpay you." The person then got mad when the clerk took the extra 5 dollars and put it into the cash register and refused to give it back.
Sure, the clerk could return the 5 dollars, but the clerk also has no obligation to return the money as the guy already agreed to pay an extra 5 dollars (even after being asked if he was sure he wanted to overpay).
Edit: oh, and @14; Yes, i am condoning Drixiss's actions. I believe he did nothing wrong and I would have done the same thing in his shoes.
That analogy is bad, as there is a double confirmation in your comparison that the Spiral Knights trading system lacks. Let's say, for simplicity's sake, that the objects costs $5.00, and the person paying has $5.00 and $10.00 bills in his wallet. He takes out a $10.00 bill by accident. That is the equivalent of the trade window. Giving the $10.00 bill to the clerk is the equivalent of clicking "confirm", because he had an opportunity to check the exact amount of the bill before actually handing it over. Lag, in this case, would be the accidental handling of a $10 bill instead of a $5 bill. The following event, the clerk asking for confirmation, is not in the current SK trading system because that is a separate confirmation in addition to the person paying the money, and would be equivalent to a "Is this trade correct?" window popping up after "Confirm" is selected.
In short, the appropriate analogy for the situation you described is giving the clerk more money than exact change would require, and him outright refusing to provide change for the larger amount immediately afterward - without a word from the customer telling him to keep the change.
Alright, comparing SK to other games aside (assuming we can't have a reasonable expectation of things based on the norm, in my opinion).....lets compare SK to SK! So are you saying SK has not gotten more laggy? Because it seems to be the majority opinion that it has. So if SK can be less laggy, but it's more laggy now....isn't that justification to have an issue with, or is that also an unreasonable expectation?
I think Triphorce's analogy illustrates the situation, it may be over-simplified and lacks some of the detail, but essentially that's what it is. If you want it more exact, imagine them trading something and the guy paying accidently gave the other guy $20 when he meant for $5. The payee asks for change, but the guy runs away. Sure the payee had made a mistake, but he's still a victim as the other guy decided to take advantage of the situation fully knowing what has happened.
This whole situation boils down to two things kind of wrong with SK.....lag....and a clunky trading system. You might want to think it's the OP's fault over lag, but you weren't there to see exactly how the lag screwed him up. I think it's possible he typed in 200 but 20 only showed, so he typed another zero and the second zero showed up at that exact moment instead of the third so he hit confirm only to have the third come in and it being confirmed at 2000. (Yeah that last sentence could be confusing, I'm just saying it's plausible lag did play a big part in his mistake). It doesn't change the fact that the OP was a victim, saying otherwise is like saying anybody who was conned or taken advantage of is not because they deserved it for some reason or another.
SK's clunky trading system needs to be fixed. There needs to be another window that pops up after the current one that shows whats being traded for what with the confirmation button on the new window. This would fix pretty much most of the mistaken trades. Could you imagine what eBay or any other online purchasing system would be like if it was a one click buy without a confirmation screen? But there I go again comparing the SK to the norm.
@17
Dont forget, the Sk trading system makes you wait a few seconds before clicking confirm. As far as these analogies are concerned, that's like the guy taking out a ten and staring at the number 10 written on it for a few seconds, then giving it to the clerk.
Just wanted to post an update. Drixiss got temp-banned, but the money he made jumped him from tier 2 to tier 3.
Here is the actual message he sent me: http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/5430/eyupn.jpg
If you have the client and are playing Spiral Knights through the downloaded client, you can right click on the icon in your desktop, click properties, click on Compatibility on the top, then check out "Disable Desktop Composition". Then run the game and hopefully you'll be playing a bit smoother. Kinda helped me.
Im in Australia and I am used to pathetic pings / lots of lag, but this is just woeful. At least Sega is consistent - its been awhile since Ive seen a good game from them. In the last game I played, I tried 3 times to use one of those farkin heal balls and I was dead every time before I could use it. The game is unplayable, not to mention already *very* repetitive.... give me my 6 hours of life back please!
Oh, and LOL @ Drixiss for the ban. Suck ar5e dude! Not returning the $ is just BS. And using the logic of "your mistake, too bad, its mine now" is just juvenile. So, for the sake of argument (and I like arguments :D), if you dropped $50 on the street n realised it, but the person behind you picks it up first then its theirs? Too bad, so sad? I bet every one of the "keep it" crowd here would chuck a little tantrum then.... Selfish people like that are what ruin multi player games, and life in general. Nice to see him suffer :) :)
Even Devilites do not like people who create accounts just to move a totem next to zombies. Forum necromancer alert. I'll leave you Knights to handle this...
1- We know already. There's only like a bazillion different threads going OMGWTFBBQ LAG. Get over it.
2- Your own fault, there's a reason they ask you to CONFIRM your trades. You decided not to look over your trade, you are at fault. Don't even try to squirm yourself out of responsibility. Extra zero or not, all you had to do was check the number, see it was wrong, and fix it.
