A non-game suggestion: please provide us with more information!

I recently started playing and I like this game a lot, but I feel like I don't know enough about where it's headed, the devs' vision for it in the future. There are a lot of threads around begging for this or that, new weapons, modifications to the energy system, vendor changes, an auction house, on and on.

My suggestion is to please provide us with some answers, even if they are tentative or short-term. If all you can say is "neat idea, we may consider it in the future," that's fine.

I just don't know if I want to commit a lot of time to this game if this is all it's going to be, its current incarnation. Where is it headed? What major changes or additions do you want to make down the road, and what are some more realistic changes that we could expect to see in the short term?

The other side of this request for more information is a bit more game-oriented - I want to know more about my equipment, what it does and how it works. It seems like the community's had to figure it all out by itself, and even then there are a number of questions that just make people shrug. I don't even know if similar bonuses stack because there's nothing in the game to tell me whether or not they do. Numbers would go a long way toward helping us compare items. And if numbers just aren't in your vision for the game, please tell us! I would argue that a tooltip popup wouldn't interfere too much with the sleek, simple presentation, but after all, it is your game.

I'd just like to know what your plans are for it.

Well soon someone is going to

Well soon someone is going to make thier own website like people do with ALL games and provide extensive strats about "What armor to use in what dungeon" or "what is the best weapon so I can kill that big bad monster" or "does this armor make my ass look like jelly?" As far as the Dev team telling us what to expect...in a short answer...They won't. Any Dev team will hype it up even if its just going to suck ass. Opinions vary from person to person on what is "cool". If the Dev team tells people what they are planning it might turn some people off and make them quit. It's basic business marketing. I REALLY doubt that they will let anyone know whats going on behind the curtains...they might drop hints but thats about it.

If they DON'T tell us what

If they DON'T tell us what they're planning, it will turn a lot of people off and make them quit. Why keep playing with nothing to look forward to?

Other MMOs post screens of new dungeons or teaser write-ups of upcoming features. Seeing none for this game makes me assume that nothing special is in development. Why should I think otherwise? If there are good reasons why I should think otherwise, why aren't these reasons more obvious?

WoW showed me screens and stats of new races and new classes, new dungeons, new areas. I kept playing in anticipation of those coming features. Other games don't show off upcoming content, and/or the content never comes, so I stopped playing those.

I did a search just now for posts referencing "nick" since I know he's on the team. I found a quote saying something about rescuing sprites from Vanaduke. That's a great example of giving out new and exciting information, but why is it tucked away in a random forum thread? Puff yourselves up guys, show us how proud you are of this game and give us something to tell our friends about.

I told all my friends to buy Minecraft because new content was coming out regularly, every Friday, announced and teased in advance. I don't know what to expect to see in this game that would help me recommend it to others.

Wiki

More information about game-oriented issues can be generally find on wiki (link is provided in popup just after login). It used to be a bit outdated after public release, as some things got changed here and there, but it gets more and more up-to-date every day.

Devs' vision is generally presented in "About" section on http://www.spiralknights.com but I agree that more info about "big picture" could be put out there. Also new features, events and such will be probably put in "Home" section.

Well, as far as right now

Well, as far as right now goes, they've only just made the game live. It's been what? A little over a week since the launch? The devs are really working on getting kinks out of the system now that more people are playing. And sometime in the forseeable future, if I'm not mistaken, they intend on launching gameplay for the core to the planet.

So I'd say just be patient, and give them a couple of months before requesting new content. They already have cycling dungeons to keep us occupied.

Also, the devs have been answering. Every once in a while you'll see an admin put his two cents in about certain common complaints. The reason you had to search for his comment was probably because it was in someone's suggestion thread, rather than in the announcements forum.
