new challenge for elite players: friendly fire

Idea: There could be a dungeon area, or perhaps simply a play mode, where players fight together against monsters, but with friendly fire taken into account. For example, if I'm chopping at a monster from close range, and you fire a Polaris blast at the monster, then the monster and I both get hurt. So we really need to coordinate our attacks!

Rationale: Elite players are all waiting around for Tier 4, or the Core, or a new Tier 3 boss, or whatever. Shadow Lairs have only partially filled this need for more challenging material, because they are so expensive. This is another idea for an intense challenge, that's genuinely different from yet another big boss or yet another trap-laden level. Friendly fire would be a big change in game play, but not as big as PvP was.

Details: To enter this friendly fire area/mode, you would have to have at least two people in your party (or three or four, even). Your party would be locked by default, so that random people couldn't join and beat you up for fun. Or maybe the party's members would be completely locked, as they are in Shadow Lairs.

that was addressed in my details

Madadder, I agree about the possibility of griefing. That's why I specifically addressed it in the "Details" section.

I imagine this friendly fire area/mode as something akin to Shadow Lairs. When you undertake this expedition, you hand-pick your party from your friends. You don't admit people who are going to ruin it for you.

bopp u are right on picking

bopp u are right on picking your team but that essentially leaves out bombers because of the radius bombs have and gunners could cause other players to get caught in their crosshairs

I saw this and also

I saw this and also immediately thought of my shivermist.
Greifing was a close second, though.

All bombers would suffer from

All bombers would suffer from this.
Swordsmen would have to organize one mob per person and avoid some charges.
You'll basicaly restrict this mode for non-polaris gunners.

I hate friendly fire in

I hate most instances of friendly fire in games, I understand the level of realism it adds regarding things like L4D etc., but friendly fire makes me more passive and non-aggresive. And then if people complain I'm slacking in the kills department, I'll try harder and just start shooting team mates on accident because they duck in and out of my line of fire. That's my main qualm, you can't account for where your friends and NPCs are going to be and you're bound to pump them full of lead in the process of killing other enemies. If they put FF in SK I would probably be pretty much defensive and not dare to attack anything near my allies.

I think it would be just more of a nuisance than a level of challenge. Like I could only imagine arena with FF, room 3 would be hell.
