I do not know if this thread belongs in this section, but like the title says, I want to start doing Shadow Lairs, but I don't know if I have the right gear for it. I tried the forest, and I ended up getting owned, mainly cause the other people in my group were 3* and 4*. Well this is the 5* gear I have:

Swords: Fang of Vog, Divine Avenger, Gran Faust, and Leviathan Blade
Guns: Blitz Needle, Sentenza, Polaris, Valiance
Bombs: Ash of Agni, Shivermist Buster
Armor/Helmet: Azure Guardian Set, Vog Cub Set
Shields: Aegis, Crest of Almire, Grey Owlite

Well that's all the 5* I have. Would any of these be helpful in doing Shadow Lairs or should I focus on getting other gear?

Ideal situation

For the first of the shadow lairs, you NEED piercing defence so I would suggest a Skolver set which would also help in Ice queen and a Barbarous Thorn Shield as any other shield will simply be useless there. Ideally you want to have piercing and poison resist for the Shadow Snarbolax.
As for weaponry, carrying the Polaris, Levi/GF/DA, Shivermist and your choice of 4th weapon will do. (FOR SNARBY)

Another thing id like to ask is why the hell would you ever go do any shadow lair with 3* or 4* people. People go in full 5* and STILL have difficulties.

I disagree with #1

I was talking to a guy in the Snarby set, so he's obviously done it.

He said that as long as you have the Shivermist, it becomes considerably easier, to the point where they only had the use energy to revive once.
So Shiver, DA, Levi + 1 more. I'd say BTB but it depends on what the team takes.
Also, take Vog. The Swarm still deal the damage they'll normally deal. So whatever you run with normally.

As long as you take your time, and you know what you're doing it should be fine. I went around YouTube and looked at a few videos, I recommend you do the same.

cFor the armor, what you need

cFor the armor, what you need is : normal, piercing, shadow and poison. Vog Cub is bad because elemental is almost useless in snarby Lair (you should avoid lumbers, really, elemental defense is not going to help there), so you are left with Azure set, which is ok.

As for shield, you'll have to choose beetween Aegis and Crest. Seeing how many undeads there are, I would take the Crest.

For weapons, it's a shame you don't have a proper piercing weapon (no, don't bring Blitz Needle there, a pure gunner with me tried it, and it will get you killed too much). But you have several of the very useful weapons :
- elemental sword, DA for you, is mandatory for undeads
- Polaris is highly recommended (at least 2 in the party) for howlitzers
- Shivermist is highly recommended (2 in the party) for everything
- for the remaining slot, either Gran Faust or Leviathan to deal with wolvers. There is nothing weak to shadow, so really, Gran Faust is because you don't have anything better.

And yes, ALL the party should be 5* full heated and well prepared (No guy with full Vog Cub, Owlite and only elemental weapons ...)

For Snarby, yes it is :

For Snarby, yes it is : piercing, shadow and poison, all you need in one part. You just need some normal defense on the other part.

My 2 cents.

Some people might disagree with me, but say you use Radiant Silvermail with Ancient Plate helm.
Let me tell why.
Armors with normal defense + piercing/shadow/elemental have 5 normal defense and 5 whatever defense.
Though most people don't know this, Ancient Plate helm (or armor) gives not 5, but 10 normal defense.
Making it equal normal defense to say two pieces of Vog.
So if your looking for the perfect resistances, take one piece Radiant Silvermail, one piece Ancient Plate helm.
Brilliant no?
Or you could take one piece snarby and one skolver but that's out of the question because you haven't done them yet..

Edit: Sword advice now. Your going to need auto-target and Barb thorn blade or Final Flourish.
This, is actually fairly simple since you have most of the stuff that is best.

Slot 1: Barb Thorn Blade OR Final Flourish.
Slot 2: Divine Avenger. (I heard that it's actually mostly zombies and constructs there so this is big.)
Slot 3: Gran Faust. (For shadow damage etc.)
Slot 4: Polaris. (Or a gun that you feel most comfortable with, but if you feel comfortable with your Polaris then do this.)

And advice: DO NOT take anybody that is 3-4*. Your team needs to be full 5* maybe with the occasional 4* item.

Hope I helped!

Cheers,

~W

@Grievos : curse resistance

@Grievos : curse resistance for what ? There is absolutely no curse in there

@Rangerwill : Gran Faust for what ? There is nothing weak to shadow in shadow lair (except if Unkown Passage, where you can change your gear whenever you want, so it's another thing). Take a Shivermist instead and that's the weapon setup I would advise.

As for Radiant Silvermail and Ancient Plate helm, why not, but you have some malus, instead of taking for exemple Skelly + Skolver, which would grant you the same defense, but a medium sword damage bonus.

Well..

@Protobender it was my first time, so I did not know what to expect. This was when the Shadow Lairs just opened up and there were no videos on Youtube showing game play on the lairs. So at that time I didn't care about having 3 and 4* people. Besides, the party leader is the one that lost most of all. It was his shadow key and his ce that we wasted.

Well I did the Shadow Forest last night, and I got around it pretty good. I used Levi, Polaris, DA, and Shivermist, plus I had my Azure Guardian armor and Aegis. It went pretty well. And I got my Snarbolax armor too, awesomeness. Thanks for the tips tho, I appreciate it.

@Rangerwill Couldn't you get

@Rangerwill

Couldn't you get Normal, pierce, shadow, curse and poison resist with a deadly virulisk suit and a deadshot chapeau?

Oops

double post. But I have a question. For URJP, should you have 2 pieces of skolver, or would a skolver cap and deadly virulisk suit be fine?

If i remember well, there is

If i remember well, there is no shadow damage nor poison in URJP, so go ahead with 2 skolver pieces. There is a lot of piercing and freeze down there.

Well

What I mean is if you get the virulisk suit and deadshot chapeau for UGW, could you just get a skolver cap for the URJP to save money? I mean, virulisk DOES offer a damage bonus against slimes.
