Somewhat new player here, and I'm a bit confused.
I've just made it to tier 2 and then I realised I haven't even fought the tier 1 boss (Snarbolax).
Why is this? I've never encountered him before, am I doing something wrong? What gate do I go through? ;[
So uh, Snarbolax.
You don't need to fight bosses, they aren't mandatory.
I found the gate with the Gloaming Wildwoods. I'll do this tomorrow because I don't have enough energy.
Don't solo it though. It takes bloody forever. >_<
I'd say that it's a good idea for new players to do him at least a couple of times, so you can get one of the items (or more). The shield is a good idea if you use primarily swords, but if you're definitely a gunslinger or bomber, then it's not mandatory. There's only two types of piercing swords out there, Flourish series and the Snarble Barb. I prefer the Snarble's charge (and the sword is 'free' since you should be able to make back the mist cost when you run his levels), but it's up to you. Again, if you're a sword user, you should work on having at least one sword of each damage type, so Snarby's reward fits neatly into your needs. The bomb is the only AOE damage bomb that's suited for party play, so if you're interested in bombing, you should definitely get it. The screen obstruction and shaking of the Blast series annoys teammates a lot, and shard bombs are harder to position and use in teams since the mobs are getting knocked around so much.
However, in your case, you can probably make more money playing T2 (depending on if you can farm JK without dying too much), but the beast stratum that Snarby is in gives nice mats and decent coinage.
...None of what I just said is useful to you, probably, but verbal diarrhea is my forte. :D
Just defeated him, not too hard. I got new tokens and I'm not too sure how many CR I got. What does the Snarble Barb do? It has no attack power but has good piercing and speed... and what does piercing do to enemies? lol...
EDIT: I also have an artifact, am I supposed to turn this in or is just there for me to read?
Piercing is a damage type. Snarble lacks normal damage but has that instead. it's good against beasts and fiends
Like Juances said, mobs do four types of damage (normal, piercing, shadow, and elemental) and knights can also do these four types. Particular mobs are weak to particular damage types, and having the right armour reduces the damage you take. That like is quite good, and I refer to the chart at the every bottom a lot. A word of warning, though, that the chart is a bit misleading with the 'damage type' (for example, gremlin thwackers do normal damage), but the 'weak to' column is great.
In all of T1, all mobs all do normal damage. In T2 and T3, damage is roughly split equally between normal and shadow/piercing/elemental. When you watch a mob hit you, you can sometimes see two different coloured pips of health leaving, with red being normal and the other colour (yellow, purple, or green) being the other damage type.
Each boss is only found in one of the 4 gates. To find Snarby, check the gate map for tier 1, stratum 2 and look for levels called the Gloaming Wildwoods (they have a tree icon to identify them). Snarbolax's home will be a beast-theme in the second stratum of the gate.
