Boss Page Organization

I think the boss pages on the wiki should be overhauled.

Currently, most seem to start with a "Monstrous Profile" section that contains the mission briefing from Spiral HQ, then a "Strategy" section with a "Tactics" subsection. Much of this "strategy" section is given over to describing the boss fight rather than talking about strategy, and what info gets put in or outside the "tactics" subsection seems to be largely random.

Instead, I suggest the following breakdown:

  1. At the top of the page (under no heading), we put in a monster stat block, like the ones that currently appear on the Bosses Page
  2. Mission Briefing contains the text of the mail Spiral HQ sends when you enter the area
  3. What Dangers Wait describes the boss's behavior, minions, and the room the fight takes place in. Basically, the game mechanics of the fight. This should be kept as factual as possible.
  4. Strategy is an opinion section containing recommendations for how to conduct the fight. Subsections can be added on a per-boss basis if there are multiple distinct approaches or if strategies vary significantly between different phases of the fight. Specific equipment is mentioned only if a particular strategy doesn't work without it (e.g. one common strategy against Vanaduke is impossible without a Shivermist Buster).
  5. Gearing Up is another opinion section containing recommendations for equipment to bring, but it should start with a factual discussion of damage types, statuses, and weaknesses. Since you can't change equipment in the boss room, consideration should be given to equipment that's useful in the levels preceding the fight as well as to the boss fight itself. Equipment recommendations should be grouped based on what niche they fill (e.g. "Armors A, B, and C are all good ways to get normal and piercing defense. D provides piercing defense, but is not recommended because...")
  6. Drops, Notes, etc. remain at the bottom, though they may also want to be made a little more consistent between pages

Any objections or counter-suggestions? I'm willing to reorganize the existing pages (though I'm probably not qualified to add any new information to the shadow lair bosses), I just want to make sure no one's really attached to the current system first.

On a side note, that boss page you posted doesn't have any links to the actual bosses. We should change that for easier navigation.

"Broken"

What do you consider "broken", in the context of wiki editing?

Currently, boss information seems to be listed basically in random order. Sections are used inconsistently between boss pages. I've seen info duplicated, wildly different topics mixed in the same paragraph, missing basic information, and it's generally a pain to find something even when I know what I'm looking for.

If none of that qualifies as "broken", exactly what would?

I think this idea is great cause it would help a lot of the new players with boss fights. Fighting a decent up to date reference to some of those boss fights was tricky for me as a new player.

I've no objections to whether or not the boss pages should be overhauled.

Just wanted to point out that for the wiki to evolve into something better,
it should be "Improve on what can be done better" AND NOT "Don't change something that's not broken".
Personal pet peeve of mine, but that line just pissed me off.

@Kazham
If you want your objection to be taken seriously, you ought to provide a rationale behind it.
Coming up with a one-liner like that reflects very badly on some of your more useful contributions to the wiki.

@Antistone
As far as I can tell, the current boss page does not have any missing images, broken links, misaligned elements, misspelled words.
Therefore, it is not broken. Having room for improvement is NOT the same as being broken.

If other people object to the overhaul, its probably because they are unsure whether the page will end up being better off or worse off.
Maybe you should put up your version of the boss page on your userpage first?
This way, people can see & judge for themselves which version is better.

shouldn't, couldn't and weren't... lol

there should be a health stat for enemies on the wiki
it would help if i knew how much health i had to deal to JK before he dies!!!
