I have been trying to test this starvation method mentioned on Wiki (http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Royal_Jelly#Starvation), but it doesn't seem to work. I was wondering if they changed it in a recent patch and it wasn't updated on wiki to reflect the change?

I killed the turrets (Royal Polyps) each 3 times in the first phase and then killed them each 3 times in the last phase (one without the crown) but they still kept spawning. Which forced me to kill him the old hack and slash way. I think the hack and slash is very boring and was excited about the possibility of a new way to beat him aside from outputting more damage than he is healing.

Thanks for replies if you know if this method of starvation still works or not.

Don't waste your time. The

Don't waste your time. The latest version of the JK is much easier to take down then previous incarnations. Just concentrate on damaging the King and keeping him under a status effect (curse, poison, fire, shock) and it will go really quick.

I do like to do Calibur charges to clear out the little stuff while hitting the JK or if you are in a group a freeze bomb is handy to lock the small stuff (or any other bomb to kill off the small stuff).

This.

Really, Jelly King is just going to keep making Polyps and, from my experience, they take quite a bit to kill. You and your party(assuming you go with parties.) can out damage his healing rates fairly easy. If the healing is a problem, then look into vials as death mentioned and/or get yourself a status inflicting weapon like the status bombs or the status brandishes.

You could try out the starving method, but I feel you(and your group) can just out damage him more easily than taking out his healers.

hack and slash it is.

Ya, I was trying to solo him using that method, I've been soloing him using the hack and slash but like I said I just find it very simple and figured trying a new tactic might be interesting.

So no one really knows if he ever stops creating turrets (Royal Polyps) or not?

The most I've done in this

The most I've done in this method is to plant an Agni between him and his mini jellies -- if you can stop them from getting to him, you'll stop healing. Though this is probably easier achieved by a VV, and Ash doesn't block all the mini-jellies, each kill denies him 57 (or something) HP, and those minis are killed in one tick. I've only really felt this helps if there are other people DPSing JK, as I fry the minis.

But yeah, straight damage on him is much faster.

Polyp Spawns

I'm responsible for posting the starvation strategy on the wiki. I seem to have gotten some of my data wrong. Sorry.

As far as I can tell, Royal Polyps do *not* respawn during the early phases of the fight--I waited for quite a while. More only started spawning after I damaged the Royal Jelly substantially, and then it wasn't the same number of polyps as originally. So I concluded that the respawns were scripted events triggered by the different phases of the fight and not a recurring timed thing.

However, on a subsequent playthrough, I noticed polyps respawning in partial-waves during the final phase of the fight, when the Royal Jelly was rage-spinning. I'm not sure why I didn't see that the first time; maybe my friend and I were too efficient and we killed all the polyps and then the king before he had time to spawn more, or maybe there's some magical thing we did differently.

If you solo the JK a lot, maybe you could do some experiments of your own and add anything you learn to the wiki.
