I have it equipped with a Wolver set, if that makes any difference.
I love my Troika. Are there any better relative-beginner swords?
@ Myllakka: They like heavy-swords because it MOBS. Not because it's slow. Derp derp derpity deerrrrpppp. *throws a computer chair atchu*
Heavy swords come in very very veerryyy handy. You "pros" under estimate majority of equipment clarifying that only the most popular gear used is the best with is a false statement. But you know, eventually knights change and revert to your ways. Tho it helps, they become soloist players who dislike assistance in battle.
...Excuse me? I'm trying to be helpful, so your attitude is really annoying. I don't see any sword advice in your post, either.
When I said 'slow sword', the only thing I was making is a distinction between the sword speeds. I don't even understand why you're jumping onto that. I didn't say that slow swords are bad, just remarking on the fact that he likes that play style. I personally prefer slow swords too, in fact.
I never said anywhere in my post that any sword is the best. I told him a fact, which is that there's only one other slow sword line in the game, if you discount the Troika lines. I also said that Calibur and Brandish are popular choices, which they are. I then said that a pierce sword (Fourish line or BTB) would be a good idea, too, since covering the 3 damage types would make his damage go up.
In fact, the only sword line (that goes up to 5*) I didn't mention, directly or indirectly, is the Cutter. How in the name of Anubis is that 'underestimating the majority of equipment'?
If you try to fight devilites with a heavy sword, you're basically screwed. *ducks to avoid the chair*
Also, #3, most popular gear became most popular for a reason. As much as I hate seeing the wolver packs running around in Haven, I can't overlook the great bonuses this armor line gives (heck, I even have my own vog coat and working towards a skolver, too).
As for the original question goes, yes, there are. Troika is fine for T1, and maybe for the start of T2, but as a swordsman you'll eventually have to give up normal-damage swords, and go for split damage (brandish, sealed) and pierching (flourish, dark thorn blade), for all the obvious reasons.
Like the other day I was heating my dark thorn blade in a Thunder Fist Arena (Slimey Showdown) and among the quicksilvers, we had a 4 Alpha Voltail spawn. Let's just say that they didn't have much energy to bark after being poked full of holes ;-0
It would take significantly more effort to kill them with the fausts and the nightblades the others were carrying.
that only depends on you and if she works out for you, then keep her. you might, howeva, want to get more variety, and i recommend piercing dmg such as a flourish becasue youll be able to cover your troikas weaknesses with it(even though the swords are completely opposite)
using a troika combo against an alpha wolver is suicide unless u time it well or its VERY fast.
its less of a suicide against devilites, but theyll probably pwn u quite a lot if ur not carefull.
all it needs is skill.
so , no, there arent any ''better'' swords, because its relative to the user, to the type of enemy and so on.
Heavy swords will be at their best in Arenas. It has distance from you and the enemy as well as a killer knockback on the second swing, not to mention that it mobs. Being in a tight corner by a mob of monsters carrying single swords can be a little bit hard to control the mobs. But their charge makes up for it. With heavy swords all you have to do is swing. I would carry one in my slot just for tight situations. Small rooms, huge monster mob. For everything else, yes single swords would be most recommended. The only reason anyone would say that slow swords aren't that great to use is because you are using them for the wrong reasons. You wouldn't mob a mob with a levithian now would you? If you won't be charging it that is. Tho I only like to use my calibur's charge when I'm attacking stationary monsters, in defensive mode from being cornered/knockback, and sometimes on the offensive when I'm cornering monsters to try and get that 3 hit combo-chain. Usually 2-3 depending on my distance.
"If you try to fight devilites with a heavy sword, you're basically screwed. *ducks to avoid the chair*"
Lies. Heavy swords are perfect for fiends if you know how to use it correctly.
Heavy swords are also good for Zombies, construct, and gremlins. And Chromalisks. I have a Jalovec and Khorovod, so I would know.
@Stavrosg: I can usually take out devilites with 2 hits. I fight by throwing myself into the middle of a battle and swinging aimlessly, relying on my stratospheric HP to keep me alive.
Troikas are fun to use but as they get higher up (5*, etc) they aren't as good compared to other slow swords (DA, GF) damage wise, and Triglav line is a pain to get, even tho it looks really cool. If you want to max out your troika, i suggest you do another line first (brandish, caliber, flourish) and then to troika; that way, you don't hafta rely on it (if you aren't used to using it) in tier 3, etc...
it sbecause she does normal dmg.
and if u t2 lockdown regularly after a run u can easily get a triglav recipe. (that happened to me anyway)
Difficult question to answer, since there's so little information.
If you like the Troika, then I assume you like slow swords? If so, the only other slow swords (excluding swords that go nowhere, like the Heavy Hatchet) in the game both start off as Sealed Swords, which are exchanged with Jelly Gems. Once you make T2, you can go and farm the JK levels. Good heat, good coins, and good weapons once you beat JK ~7 times. You can even do that with your Dusker/Ash Tail set, since the Wolver line is piercing resistant until, optionally, 5*.
If you mean beginner swords in general, the Calibur line is always good for a general, all-purpose sword with a great charge. You can go for a brandish too, since the higher leveled swords can cause nifty statuses when charged. Getting a piercing sword wouldn't be amiss either.
Bottom line is that when you get to T2 and T3, you should have a weapon of each damage type (elemental, piercing, shadow) so you can do critical damage depending on what monster are in each level.
