Hello, my issue is that my laptop cannot start the game. I try to run the game from the play display on the spiral knights website and i get a black screen and then an error message telling me to come to the technical issues part of the forum.

SO I try to carry out the instructions for 5. Are you getting a black screen/a malfunctioning full-screen/bad resolution?
However I get stuck at the instruction of 5. Double-click each of the registry keys (if present) and type in the corresponding value:
I cannot change those registry keys because they are not there.

If anyone could help me figure out how to get the game to run that would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if the game

I'm not sure if the game stores the values in the registry if you are not installing it. Could you install it to verify? The link is in the Play page as well. If you still get a black screen after setting the registry keys, locate the projectx.log file in the folder you installed the game and paste the content here.

Found the projectx.log file

OK i tried installing the game but I still had the same result. In addition, I was still unable to find the registry keys.
However, I found the projectx file so i am just going to print what it holds.

To me it looks kind of short, but that is all it had.

windows 7 with admin rights?

windows 7 with admin rights? you won't modify the registry without those.
Are you running the latest Java release?
Is your video card running the latest video drivers?

It won't parse the registry

It won't parse the registry since its crashing during the display detection phase, but you don't need admin rights since the key is stored in the user portion of the registry.

Anyway, the late Intel HD series, just prior to and including the Sandybridge i5/i7, does fully support the needed OGL features in hardware. But you still need to update the latest Intel direct drivers, since the Windows included drivers tend to be old, and usually have incomplete or missing OpenGL support.

Success

I was missing an update for my graphics card. Thank you all for helping me get the game to run correctly.
