To start things off, I am a swordsman looking for a bomb that matches my swordsman play style. And I like to play smart by getting hit the least amount of times. Here's my loadout:
Ash Tail Cap (complete)
Vog Cub Coat (complete)
Wise Owlite Shield (complete)/Dark Thorn (lvl 1)
Avenger (complete)
Faust (complete)
Ascended Calibur (complete)
Dark Thorn Blade (complete)

As you can see, I'm still in 4* and F2P. I'm in dire need of a crowd control weapon and have heard great things about the Shivermist. But, I have seen the performance of the Voltaic Line AND it's DPS. I'm in need for some guidance on which is better for all around sword fighting, crowd control wise?

Since you have calibur id go

Since you have calibur id go shiver, tempest is not bad, nor is ash of agni or even the other status bombs. But the first two synergize. But remember that whatever bomb you use you will probably want to up its CTR at least by med, its too slow on default. If you go tempest for damage your swords do too much knockback for me to think they will synergize on that aspect, they'll just have a use of the crowd control.

Don't overlook the

Don't overlook the Electron/Graviton vortex. They're kind of wimpy at 3*, but get much, much better at 4 and 5*. Hoover up the enemies into one spot, then unleash a calibur/dtb charge or avenger/faust combo on them.

I really like my status bombs, but I feel like they're much better suited for a support bomber role. I rarely use them for combined bomb/sword play.

Go for shiver. Its great for crowd control, and pretty useful in fsc as well.

I'm a little on the offensive side when it comes to getting the job done, so would the Shivermist be useful in an arena/danger room?

Not in arena, it'll make monsters block the path of you and your teammates. For arenas, AoA and Voltaic would be best.

After reading Nicoya's post I have a few more questions.
How well do the vortex's perform in all around T3? Including Vana runs?

Vortex shines in FSC. Zombies

Vortex shines in FSC. Zombies are slow moving enemies that are easily baited into either doing a jump at you attack or fire breath. Both of these are easily dodge-able and give you ample time to place a Vortex very close and likely near a bunch of other mobs.

For non-FSC areas. It's good against most enemies as long as they don't have ranged attacks and/or don't move incredibly fast.
