Currently, I mostly have 2 star items but with a 3 star sword, gun, and armor. But recently, I've been thinking that getting a 3 star shield and helm might just be a waste and I should just keep making money until I have enough for 4 star items.Should I go along with this plan?
Should I Skip 3 Star Items?
Short answer: No.
Long answer:
Since 3* items need to reach lvl 5 heat to upgrade, you're forced to bind it. Once it's upgraded to 4*, it's still bound. So if you wanted to sell that 4* weapon/armor, you would have to unbind it at a high CE fee (see Vise on the wiki), and you would obviously sell the item for more than that. Since that unbind fee is MUCH higher than the CE it would take to craft, it turns out to be much cheaper to outright buy the recipe, mats and CE to craft it than to buy pre-made from other players.
Therefore, crafting your way to 5* is always cheaper than buying the 4* or 5* version due to the hefty unbind costs.
The only reason you would buy a 4-5* item is if you're rich and lazy, or you're buying it for a specific UV(s) it may have.
" I've been thinking that getting a 3 star shield and helm might just be a waste "
You can get some 'free' 3* items by defeating bosses.
I'd agree with you. Armor bonuses are ok, but getting to 4* weapons is a priority.
my 2cents, if you have no problem running T2 (without reviving i mean) you could just keep running for now. lot's of people allready stated this all over the forums how to upgrade
first weapons (your primary, then your sidearm)
shield
armor
upgrading your shield gives it more life so it can take more hits before it breaks (and with that falling back on your armor) but the if you can dodge most attacks and shield the ones you can't your good with 2* stuff
buying 4* stuff i would not recomend just because of the unbind cost (or it needs to have a VERY good uv but that in term pushes the price even higher)
buying stuff up to 3* can be somewhat less exspensive seeing you don't need the recipe, mats and energy (wich they in turn allmost every time used ME so it's cheaper)
I'd discourage skipping. It'll probably take longer than not skipping.
