which is a better UV (main goal: tier 3) for an owlite shield to have? UV for defense that it's lacking = owlite shield -> piercing/shadow.. bristling buckler - elemental/shadow or a normal defense UV (because most monsters do half normal)?

thanks o kind ones :)

Hmm

A Shield UV isn't going to change your shield's blocking ability by a whole lot. This is because attacks do a great deal of damage compared to a shield's health. So if a shield breaks in three hits from a particular attack, after adding a UV it'll probably still break in three hits.

Because of that I lean toward UVs that complement the existing shield. Given a Grey Owlite, if you want to do better in T3 against things like Mecha Knights and Vanaduke then a UV Normal will help a bit. Or to do better against Gun Puppies then UV Elemental would be the way to go.

But if you want to go up against Howlitzers and Kats, then it is best to grab a shadow shield like Crest of Almire or Dread Skelly. Those will vastly outperform Grey Owlite UV Shadow Max.

How about status res UVs? Are they any good on a owlite? Say Curse UV?

Sure

Just like defensive UVs, I would stack Status UVs with a shield's natural resistance to boost its existing abilities. Unless you had something particular in mind that you were trying to block. I'm not sure where a Curse UV would make a Grey Owlite shield better for anything in particular. If Curse UV was on Crest of Almire it could make it a better shield for Graveyards and UFSC.

ic, so its better to have

ic, so its better to have cheaper non- UVd 3 shields - grey owlite (ele), almire (shadow), and barb shield (piercing) rather than 1 expensive UV'd max shield.. thx!

time to craft some shield.. btw does this apply to armor too?
