Dictate

I just started playing and this game is quite confusing. I'm also looking for friends so add Dictate! :D And I hope you guys don't mind if I ask a few questions.

How do you upgrade equipment? Like is it a recipe and you just get all the materials and voila? And what kind of equipment is good? I'm liking my Cutter so far, but from a little skimming around it looks like Cutters are somewhat of an underdog. And I highly doubt I'm using it correctly or effectively. I would like to learn how to utilize the Cutter to it's full potential though because I'm loving the speed. And what should my secondary weapons, shield, and armor be? And what does auto-selling the crystals do? I have a lot of questions, but I guess those are the most prominent so far. It'd also be great if someone could point me out to a BRIEF guide on everything in the game. If there is one. I'm way too lazy to click ALL the links in the sticky thread and read them all.

And also, I read a guide saying that I should always be doing Snorbolax dungeons, but I guess I haven't done any since I started. I've been doing random dungeons for the past few days.

And anyone from YPP? Airs of Viridian here! :D

Hi there! Welcome aboard!

Hi! My name is Hobcramwork and I will help you where I can :).

You upgrade equipment by crafting them to the next star level. You would need to learn the relevant recipe and obtain the required materials, crowns and CE in oreder to craft the item. This crafting can be done at a Alchemy machine.

There are people who have learnt to use the Cutter blade well, so you could ask around. Use the Owlite shield for blocking Elemental damage, Wolver armor and helmet for starters and an elemental Alchemer (Fire, Volt, Cryo). Cryo will help you survive a lot in Tier 2, the others give additional damage on the enemies if successful.

The minerals are mainly used to choose what type of stratums you want. Each time you sell some minerals, you get back some crowns.

Snarbolax can be found in Tier 1 stratums. Snarbolax usually resides in the Gloaming Wildwoods (or you could look for the stratum with a green skull before Moorcraft Manor). You can get a piercing sword and shield by exchanging the Snarbolax tokens with the token trader (Brinks).

Have fun dleving into the Clockworks :) !

hi, im kraanx

oh btw, u might not want to buy 2-star recipes, because u can buy 2-star equipment for less than the alchemy/energy cost in the AH, just click on ''buy price'' and the cheapest or most expensive immediate purchase cost will appear for that piece of equip, or on bid price if youre a patient person.

If you buy 2* recipes then

If you buy 2* recipes then you can use mist to craft for UV and sell off your rejects to cover you crafting/mats. This is the cheapest way to get good UVs (very time consuming though). When mist crafting I typically still turn a profit as well.

For now, buy your two star

For now, buy your two star equips off of the Auction House for the cheapest buy price. You won't be able to afford UV's at this point, and "UV rolling" (meaning crafting tons of stuff to get good bonuses on equipment) is too expensive and time-consuming early on in the game. Just stick with buying two star stuff off of Auction house. You can choose between buying your three star equips off of Auction House or crafting it. Both options cost roughly the same. Four star and upwards, you'll want to craft yourself.

As for the cutter - Yes, the cutter is not as favored in the game. It takes five swings to get a full combo on a monster, which is a bit time consuming.
The small damage per hit means you can't just swing once or twice and shield quickly and still do good DPS.
The narrow hit range of the Cutter line means you'll probably only hit the monster directly in front of you. Also, the charge attack isn't so great- it has a large down time, where you can get your face nommed off by a zombie or hit by a turret.
The combo also moves you a fair distance - making it hard to use near obstacles.

For this stage, I would recommend the Calibur. It's similar to the Proto Sword, has a wide hit range, 3 hit combo, okay damage, and a complete asskicking charge attack. Also the recipes are cheap as you don't have to put up with expensive AH prices.
For a secondary weapon, consider a gun. You can't afford a weapon slot upgrade at this point and having different damage types means you won't be able to cover some monsters effectively. But if you REALLY want to get Elemental/Piercing/Shadow swords, start saving up energy and money for them and some weapon upgrades.

Your shield should suit how you use it most effectively.
The Defender line is cheap but has no special effects and is outshined by many other shields later on in the game.
The Bristling Buckler is great for people who like to use swords extensively, for the sword damage bonus.
The Plate Shield line can withstand a ton of beating. It can also bump enemies farther away than other shields.
The Scarlet Shield, though a not particularly popular shield, has a great health bonus, which is helpful if you're just using it for a while while you upgrade something else.
The Owlite line has good resistances. Get one if you plan on doing many boss runs later.

Armor:
Ditch Cobalt armor. Most people get armor to suit what they do for combat. Cobalt has nothing special except being cheap.
Wolver Armor: Good for swordies. Has a sword damage bonus at lower stars but branches out into different suits lateron.
Bomber Armor: Good for bombers. I'm not quite sure what the bonus is because I never pay attention. Most likely a Charge Time Reduction or Bomb Damage bonus, which is very useful to them.
Gunslinger Armor: Good for gunners. Has gun attack speed increase, but this armor is first available at three star level. You'll want something else in the meantime.
Magic Armor: Elemental defense. Good for T2 boss runs.

As for auto-selling crystals, don't do it. Auto-sell sells all your crystals to the selected stratum at the selected gate, and completely ignores if you're getting 2 crowns for each crystal or 4 crowns a piece. Manually sell your crystals at the gates to net the largest amount of money possible. Look for 4's.

As for boss dungeons, you WILL want to do them. They give you the most money (usually) for your energy spent on the level. They give you tokens, which can be traded for armor, weapons, or shields if you have enough. Also try to hit as many Arenas as you can along the way.

Hello Dictate and this is my info for you!

Hello Dictate! I would love to add you and please add me too :)! My IGN (In Game Name) is: Nalydx
Oh and you should do Snarbolax runs, but since you just started out a few days, please take some friends, at least 1 or more friends depending on how long they played and how good their items are. Snarbolax runs are really good to do, it is a good way to get crowns when you start the game and trying to get the hang of it! Oh and about your Cutter, I stopped using mine until I can get a recipe to upgrade it into a Striker. It is almost kinda the same stats as Cutter, but you can get recipes to upgrade it. I hope your not bored reading at this point D:! Because i think this will help you.

There are 2 recipe routes for it. 1 is crafting it up to the Dread Venom Striker, but you do need a Vile Striker first and it needs to be at Level 5. The other is crafting it up to the Wild Hunting Blade, but you need a Hunting Blade first and it also needs to be Level 5. But the way to get the Vile Striker or the Hunting Blade is to craft your Striker to one of them. You are required to have the Cutter to craft it into Vile Striker or Hunting Blade. And be aware that if you have it equipped, it won't craft. So please un-equip it first before you craft it! It will cost lots more energy and crowns once you get the recipes to upgrade it. I know this seems like you need to be like Tier 3 until you will need to do and find out about this...but if you do LOTS of snarbolax runs, AND I MEAN A LOT (Meaning about 17 or so....lol) you might have enough spare crowns to TRADE your crowns for CE (Crystal Energy) And NOTE that CE isn't the same as your recharging energy (Mist Energy) I'm just explaining the energy names because I'm not sure you know what it means yet....so i did anyway. Well if you have lots of spare crowns you are willing to trade for CE, you should have almost enough CE to get through the recipes. But DO NOT spend ALL your crowns to trade for energy (Unless you want to buy energy with REAL money). Then when you know (Which you might obviously know) when you have enough crowns to get more gear, think about it first on what you REALLY want, think it out, then buy what you need. Then if you eventually get Tier 2 and/or 2 or 3 star items, go ahead and try some JK (Jelly King) runs, WITH FRIENDS. I will guarantee you to get some friends to help you, JK is hard to solo unless you are Tier 3. So the reason why I wrote these things, is because I want you to be wise about paying your crowns, crafting, and upgrade your Cutter.

This part is about your other ITEMS/EQUIPMENT. Well if you already have a Cutter, you should have at least Cobalt Armor and Cobalt Helmet, or either Wolver Coat and Wolver Cap. But I mainly recommend if you want an item that will help you on Snarbolax runs is Calibur and Flourish, Calibur those lots of damage and is great for starters! Flourish does SO MUCH DAMAGE against wolves you will see on the snarbolax levels and against gremlins. But choose wisely on if you want a calibur or a flourish....i would get a calibur because it does great damage for lots of Tier 1 and Tier 2 depths/levels.

Oh and your shield! This part is about your shield. I hope your not bored reading my info at this point D:! Well anyways...since you ask about what shield you should get, I recommend an Owlite shield or Defender shield. But i really think Owlite shield is way better. But please check first on which one you think is better. You can ALSO get a Buckling Bristler shield from the Bazaar. Once you get to the Bazaar, go down the stairs right when you enter, then go all the way left. Then when you see an NPC with a helmet with metal looking bars on the front, and the armor is colored red, he is also next to another NPC and next to a machine and really fat stairs all the way to the left. You can buy the Bristling Buckler from him but you need 10 Frumious Fangs! (The way you get Frumious Fangs is from Snarbolax. If you beat Snarbolax twice, you will probably be able to get it. I see people recommending Bristling Buckler more than OWlite Shield. I hope you aren't Bored now D:! I have spent about an hour telling you all this...so please keep reading IF you ARE still even READING! So at this point, I will tell you what my items are: Wolver Cap, Wolver Coat, Owlite Shield, Brandish, and Flourish. Well I hope this helped! :D
