So I was soloing thru stratum 6 and got to level 25 or something and I enter one of those places that are divided up into section with gates and switches, and the moment I entered, before I could even see a gun puppy, I got hit by a heat-seeking missle, and it wasn't even from a gun puppy in the immediate section I was in, and the room contained several gun puppies that fired heat-seeking missles from section that were closed to me until I first had first fight my way to through constructs and what not, and there is simply no way to avoid taking massive amounts of damage, and don't bother to argue otherwise because my gear is as good as it gets and my skills are more than adequate to solo to the core, so why not just admit that monsters that deal unavoidable and massive amounts of damage are a cheat and need to be removed or radically revamped. Thank you very much.
Heating-Seeking Missles are a cheat and need to be nerfed.
Now Rocket Puppies at the end of an Arena on the other hand...
Have an Elemental Shield and Vog Cub armor. Stand near enemies or other rocket puppies with your shield up. They do splash damage so the rockets will do the killing for you. Solo'd a Tier 3 arena where there were 8 rocket puppies. It's not that hard to kill them. Just let them kill themselves.
nono... according to balances in spiral knights its perfectly ok, rocket puppies are like the divine avenger of heavy swords.
Ok, now every monster in existance has been called overpowered or annoying or bugged by someone except jelly.
Who's next?
"Ok, now every monster in existance has been called overpowered or annoying or bugged by someone except jelly.
Who's next?"
Seriously? Even silkwings?
Because they keep alive what you want dead. And I'll bet someone has posted complaining that they're either too small to be hit or heal too fast.
Well, someone complained they're defenceless anyway.
Really? I seem to remember that the Jellies were called OP when they got their spike update -_-
Heat seeking missiles are one of the many things that shouldnt be in the game.
Rocket Puppies can prove beyond useful with other monsters around. It doesn't take much to run to the opposite side of a monster (even another Rocket Pup) and let them take the damage. :)
If there are no other monsters to take cover behind, you can skillfully fun in circles as Ciopo mentioned. You can also stun the Rocket Pup to stop it from attacking - and, with good timing skills, you can actually keep it from attacking altogether.
But as Shidara hinted, Rocket Pups in larger groups (4+) can be a bit unreasonable. :X
THe rockets travel slower, and there aren't as many fired at one time.
they cant be heat-seeking missles. there is lots of heat everywhere. so they wouldn't work, especially in FSC. more like knight-seeking missles. and please write in complete sentences. i barely understood what u wrote.
yes i also ran into this problem :s
walked into the room and got a nice welcome (3 rockets to the face) like the OP said i didn't even SEE the thing so between dodging and trying to shoot it (blind i might add) it wiped out our party of 3 because we couldn't see where the gunpuppy's where, so it just kept spamming rockets at us. (so we avoided that map because it happend the second time to)
I just ran a T3 Iron Edge Arena - Wrench Warfare, which is undoubtedly the most Rocket Puppy-populated condensed floor in Spiral Knights as of now. On the third arena, one side of the spawn wave had 4 of them, and they were actually quite manageable. You just need to stay out of their scope (noticeability region) and take out the ones who have noticed you. You can also duck behind them and let them hit each other.
Now... the other side of the spawn wave had 8 spawn. Yes, 8 Rocket Puppies, all in range. The good thing is that they don't all notice you at once, however this does not seem to be enough to make it reasonably fun for most. I think the only way a player could survive this spawn wave is if they were relatively skilled, had the correct gear, and knew how to balance the spawn waves correctly. Either that or they could just get lucky and somehow manage to stay out of their scopes. :)
I believe Malsvirbranea mentioned what I just said above, although it is not necessarily easy, you just need the right gear and knowledge.
Personally, I enjoy this unique challenge. I have yet to take all 8 Rocket Puppies down without taking any damage. Also note that the third arena is entirely optional. If you know it's coming and aren't confident you can make it through, then you have nothing to complain about if fail your own decision. Though, I can understand the frustration with other types of levels that are not optional. (Danger Rooms fall in the former category.)
Especially when you're soloing T3... with no fire resistance...
Did the same with some mecha knights. They all killed each other. All I did was run.
Keep moving, swat enemies every so often and if all else fails, block what you can.
If you are getting rocket puppies on top of gun puppies/lots of enemies in arena, then I guess you are screwed (and also probably doing it wrong). Timing enemies deaths = key.
I duo'd a T3 arena (don't remember which ones) where we didn't manage the spawns properly and got 12 rocket puppies on our hands. Epic failure on our part, but trying to finish that one took us two revs each, if I'm remembering this properly. I'd say that with no where to run and very little to hide behind, they're super annoying, but generally, I don't find them to be worse than gun puppies in other Clockworks depths.
but any monster that can attack you (1) before you even see it, (2) across sections that are at first closed to you until you fight your way through a section, and (3) deal large amounts of (essentially) UNAVOIDABLE damage needs a fix.
@Shadownox - I actually wrote in one long, complete sentence by employing the time-worn strategy of using multiple coordinating conjunctions (conjunction-junction, what's your function? Sesame Street circa the 1970s) in order to give the reader that breathless feeling of being relentless pursued by KNIGHT-seeking missels.
I'm fine with them, but the missiles COULD move a tad slower...
run in little circles and the damage becomes avoidable, you can practice at the fsc rocket room :3
