In light of the new elevator monthly pass system in the works I believe the only way for this game to stay playable is to drop the CE market entirely. With elevator passes there will be less people buying CE and more Crowns in the market. To survive SK needs a set exchange rate for CR <---> CE in the form of a Vender where players can purchase CE with CR or CR with CE. This way CE purchases could be made straight from OOO with out the need for a person to purchase CE with real currency first. OOO will still make their money selling elevator passes and people who want instant CR or CE will still buy CE from OOO as before.

The only way the system has kinda working before was that every now and then OOO would put out some new content or package that would temporarily boost CE sales, thus temporarily bringing down CE trade prices. This system didn't work that great in the past when SK was OOO's number 1 baby and now it is going to go even more poorly since OOO's number one concern will soon be (if not already) development of their Dr. Who game for SEGA.

I agree we need a set

I agree we need a set merchant price for CE.... but thats been said before.

Suggesstions forum pl0x :P

as for the Dr. Who game; If my friend can make it, there should be hardly any concern in it for SEGA. But im a bit biased on that part (hated the game and SEGA's certain game releases.)

Passes are nice for a promotion, though as of now I cant form a perfect option to use with it

Maybe the Vendor should only

Maybe the Vendor should only have a limited stock everyday, or energy which regenerates a set amount after a set amount of time has passed.
As for the dropping of the CE market, I don't care for that idea. Some people should just learn that if there's so many people out there that want their energy quickly so they drive up the prices whenever they buy any.

I really don't CE prices go

I really don't CE prices go up significantly due to greedy players (not saying that there are no greedy players driving up prices). Its simple supply and demand. Supply goes down (less people are buying CE & selling for crowns) so CE prices go up. The CE price will continue to go up as people get bored with the game and quit playing. For CE prices to fall there needs to be an influx of paying (CE buying) players or new content &/or energy packages to entice existing players to buy more CE.

It should work like gas

It should work like gas prices work, where large companies (OOO) fluctuate the price every few hours.

False profit! Somebody grab a crucifix.

Problem is Spiral Knights will now fuel SUVs... So, it will not have a constant stream of consumers willing to bend-over for the pump.

Does this mean they're gonna

Does this mean they're gonna build an energy pipe line to the core, and tens of protesters are gonna do a sit-in at the auction house? We seriously need to make this happen, and then in from Stephen Colbert.

If OOO makes it so you can

If OOO makes it so you can buy CE directly from them for crowns they are effectively cutting their own throats. They depend on players to buy CE with real money to make a profit off the game. To sell it for crowns, instead of a player buying it and then reselling it, it would cut their profits exponentially. Won't happen.

Soon to be unemployed dev: "The numbers are in boss, the amount of Crystal Energy we sold this month went down by 50%, but we made 300 million crowns."
Boss: "How much money do all those crowns turn into Jenkins?"
Jenkins: "Uhhhhh, none Sir... its play money from the game..."
Boss: "Who's idea was this again?"
Jenkins: "Mine... Sir."
Boss: "You have an hour to clean out your desk."

The solution is more crown

The solution is more crown sinks and always has been.

There's little reason for P2P players to sell their CE, except when they're new and don't have gear yet. You need CE to do pretty much everything, once you have gear you don't need crowns for anything unless you feel like rolling some UVs. High value trades are typically carried out with CE and not on the auction house. Most people keep all their money in the form of CE.

Free players will never win in this situation - they're selling something most P2P players don't need, and there's so many more buyers than sellers that the price gets bid up to a point that prices most free players out of the market.

Almost every move by OOO has done nothing but entrench the situation, so I can't help but think it's by design.

@Gwenyvier - Got it so right.

@Gwenyvier - Got it so right. I'm amazed that OP thinks that in order for games to survive, the best way is to remove the main revenue stream. Next brilliant idea. Losing weight by eating hamburgers.

I think it's unfair to say that OOOs has done nothing but entrench the situation, considering that they have made obvious moves to sink crowns, from the accessories auction, to Krogmo, to rolling for UVs. Still, you really can't blame them for making CE more attractive, can you? They depend on it to survive.

Also, studios tend to hire staff on project basis. They aren't going to rip out the whole spiral knights team and place them in another game. Though admittedly, they might shift a producer over.

The crown sink I would like

The crown sink I would like to see is unbinding, however I don't expect we will see that one, as OOO has tight control of the equipment market, it requires energy to make and energy to move, this would mean that old equipment could be moved without a "payment" to OOO. Therefore to advance in the game above 2* "money" is required, yours or someone elses.

I think it's unfair to say that OOOs has done nothing but entrench the situation

Eh? Let's look at what OOO has done....

Material sinks: none

Crown sinks:
* the AH selling and listing fees
* Punch
* (so far) only one accessory auction that drained only a small amount of the excess crowns from a few people
* Shadow keys on the AH for a limited time
* PvP, but it is very tiny

Crown sink reductions:
* the 5/17 crafting changes

Crown fountain increase:
* the elevator pass

CE sinks:
* the 5/17 craft changes
* Vice
* silver keys
* shadow keys and shadow lairs

OK, so OOO has done a few improvements that have been overwhelmed by the things they have done to make things worse. Yes, OOO has most certainly entrenched the situation, especially recently.

No worries, I'm sure the ever-shrinking player base will continue to pay all the dev's salaries.

You missed the biggest crown

You missed the biggest crown sink out there AH, 10% of the money is taken out of the system.

Other crown sinks.

The CE market is also a crown sink 2%
Mail system is also a tiny crown sink.

Indeed, I did forget the AH. I'm not sure if it is the biggest crown sink, but it is certainly large.

The others, however, are not new since the release of the game, and therefore don't count as far as OOO making things better or worse.

We have very different

We have very different definitions of nothing.

Also, there's nothing wrong with OOO making CE more attractive to players considering it's their primary revenue stream. Which they need to survive. People keep forgetting that most games are released after a development cycle which costs money, and that's even before you factor new content and maintenance. We could blame only OOO if they really did something to actually hurt us, like raise the IRL price of CE.
