i spent 15 minuits with him and hitting the bell every time he got close, not once did he became vulnarable during the whole fight...
i know the bug that he sometimes does this but 15 minuits??? so yeah i had to return to haven. going to repeat it now and hope it will work this time. (couldn't find a bug report button ingame)

Use F2 to report a bug, and use the "Support" link in the gear menu to file an in-game GM support request. The GMs will be able to reset the level for you, or just use their banstick to kill the bugged snarby or something.
