I know that sleep weapons havent been released in spiral knights because causing sleep by hitting someone with a sword or a gun makes absolutely no sense, but a sleeping gas vaporizer totally does.

Sleep is useless in all aspects - there's a reason why sleep-themed levels were removed from the game.
Though I would say a tranquilizer gun can induce sleep.

Sleep isnt useless, but it does require legitimate planing. Things at full health cant heal, and sleep is the only status that can completly prevent monsters from attacking. Still a sleep haze bomb would BREAK lockdown.

About if its useless or not, it depends on the point of biew of the user. For me stun isnt a good status either and yet i see people with sudaruskas and those stunning flourish.
You are right about the tranquilizer gun, it would be a half piercing half elemental with low speed but high damage that shoots darts with slight chance of causing sleep.
The vaporizer just cause low status so i dont think that would break lockdown.
If you dont see sleep as a useful status then dont use sleep weapons but i think that the ones who want to give it a shot deserve the opportunity to do so.

Drowsy Sword - Pins snip and bats stab, but nothing slashes quite like this sword. It deals a pretty decent amount of damage for something that occasionally emanates audible snoring. Imagine what it could do if it were fully awake.
I don't know how Sleep would work outside of keeping a certain monster alive in Arenas and Danger Rooms, though. Disabling a monster at the cost of letting it heal doesn't sound too good unless the monster is at max HP and is very dangerous. A "Drowsy Vaporizer" would screw over Lockdown, as Frostythepyro said.
Sleep is such a useless status effect, though. It heals affected entities.
