As stated above, would some free to play players who managed to reach 5* share how they did it? and how long it took?
Any 5* f2p players willing to share their experience?
Look if you were adventring it would take longer having to get more star armor cause your losing then you lost that days cr pay look my trick was to realy buy with money$ce and sell it all.
When you say 5* do you mean have one 5* item, one complete load out?
I think it took me about two months to get my first 5* item, but I wasnt really a F2P player. I did purchase that 1600 CE package at one point, but that really isnt that much, and I spent a lot of CE making a whole bunch of 4* items to try them out (eg. I developed the Cobalt/defender for a bit before switching). This was back when CE was about 5-6000 crowns.
I still wouldnt call myself a 5* player since I still dont have any 5* armor or shields (although thats going to change as soon as I find the recipe)
Generally, I got to tier 2 as soon as I could, on the advice of a lot of people, although for a long time I played solo. I wasnt very good and as such never did any jelly runs to get crowns. Eventually, i started partying again, and i never looked back. Now I pretty much do FSC only, although Im still not too good.
No i didnt mean a 1600ce they will only buy you link two 3 star stuff im talking about these two 3500ce or $19.19 PACK <-----this one will get u about 3 four star items or equipment.
I started broadly as f2p. I got a brute jelly helm and antigua from jelly runs so I didn't need to use energy to craft up to 3*. People give you stuff as they quit Spiral Knights, so I got ~500 energy from a friend to craft a 4* item. Also, I got lucky with drops and sold a 4* item, back before unbinding.
As a whole, going from 4* to 5*, the last hurdle, was less about needing any gear to survive, and more about finding recipes for the items you wanted. Back then, the prices for recipes were higher, as a lot of Steam players were raising the AH price. My first 5* was Shivermist, then Divine Mantle, and then I can't remember the rest.
I think reaching 5* took about 3-4 weeks. I never got very good at Vanaduke though, because I was playing with other people who hadn't faced him much. Anyways, having a DVS, antigua, shivermist, and venom veiler isn't the best loadout (I didn't have bomb ctr trinkets then, and people complained that they couldn't see the ground/debris indicators when I shivered).
As a whole I'm a fairly lucky player at the start. I crafted a vh ctr haze bomb after only 50 tries or so, got lucky equip drops, had friends who quit, and had a friend that stuck around that was a defensive, safe player like me. After I hit all 5*, I took a break from the game, then returned and now am going for... uh... completion I guess? I have become a p2p player tho. I first bought $2.50 to mark my account, then $10 later in Rose Regalia Redux. But I feel that this ce has not mattered much in the long run.
We have a lot of f2p players in our guild. I'd guess most of them reached 3* in about a month.
Some did in 10 days or so, buying & selling recipes and other stuff instead of crafting their budget away the moment they got the cr.
Some did it way faster, doing more "creative stuff" like crafting the right items at the right time + buying / selling "unique opportunity stuff".
I'd guess most of our "casual player"s were "fsc ready" after 3-4 months (and by casual I mean: one run every other day, close to no interest in trading / AH).
It took most of the players another month or two, before they could do more than just barely carry their own weight... this is mostly practice I guess though: We're all playing with crappy equipment often enough for various reasons.
hi i nvest ~ 20 $ to this game (i buy 10$ e package by mistake, cause 3o change default offer from 3$ to 10$). i have 5* piercing, shadow, elemental armor sets with shields and many different weapons and trinkets, all slots unlocked.
i start playing shortly after official launch. first i got 2* cobalt armor (tok me about one weak) and start going jelly king. after ~ 1 moonth i craft volcanic plate mail and helm + grey owlite shield + viliance + combuster + levi and start going vanaduke.
just buy 100 ce after each jelly king or vanaduke run. trade all tokens for 5* items and sell it to vendor.
thats all. only think i boycot is shadow lair, but maybe now when price of shadow keys decrased i buy one;)
My strategy: Divine Veil, Skolver Coat, Grey Owlite Shield. (Probably the best general-purpose armor set.) For weapons, Final Flourish and Acheron. I still haven't finished this program, because I started funnelling money to my other character, thus ruining my F2P experiment. Oh well.
My point is that as soon as I hit Nightblade, I can farm RJP depths 15 and 16 pretty effectively, especially if I have friends around so that I can drop in without playing depths 8-12. Often an arena can be found on depth 14, which is great. I could make, hmm, maybe 10,000 crowns with my 100 ME each day. I didn't do any selling of recipes; just playing.
But as soon as I hit Nightblade, the sword is no longer great against fiends and undead, so I need a second damage type (piercing or elemental) to cover all the monster types decently. Hence I started my Final Flourish then.
For 3-star items, buy from the Auction House. After that, craft them up to 5-star.
$20 is not "almost" free. Come on.
I got the game in june when it launched on steam, and it took me until Oct. 21 (about four months) to get the Stellar Set achievement which consisted of:
Volcanic Demo Suit
Mad Bomber Mask
Barbarous Thorn Shield
Nova Driver
Dark Briar Barrage
I pretty much just stuck with one armor, helm, and shield line but I had a large amassment of weapons. Now I have every achievement, nearly one weapon from every line, and every boss reward except for vanaduke's (and no shadow lairs yet) and it never cost me a single penny.
Upgrading boss sets saved a bit of money (2 star recipe + crafting cost for snarbolax, 3 star recipe + crafting cost for the others) and I never bothered with any of kozma's junk. I used to be able to sell blue shards on AH for 500cr too.
i haven't been playing 100ME for 4 months straight, so i might be closer to 3 months total... a few friends were playing (they were at endgame), so it was a little easy to get into. they stopped playing my second month in, so i wasn't able to get the most benefit from it though...
i leveled my gear to 3* first and then pushed my bomb to a 5* (Nitronome) with more of Kozma's recipes. next, i built my gear up to 4* so i could enter T3. i then worked on getting 5* armor and helm for the weapon bonuses. next on my list was to get another weapon to 5*. i picked one of Sullivan's weapon recipes (the PvP token trader) because it was easy to get my hands on the entire line (and cheaper in the long run). it was after i got this weapon that i started looking for a 5* shield recipe. i got the recipe a couple weeks ago, and have been debating what to make next...
things i've learned in these 4 months:
>it's important to get -good- UVs early on, because it'll cost you to try to put them on later.
>the right 5* recipes are pretty hard to get unless you spend a few thousand CR more on those at the AH or go for ones from Kozma or Sullivan.
>the Grim/Forge/Primal Sparks should be enough to get you most of the materials that you need.
>having an extensive friend list makes it easier to get where you want to go.
>clearing T1 will make T2 entrance 0cr and clearing T2 will make T3 entrance 0cr on the lift you chose to descend.
yeah I didn't even TRY getting uvs until I already had my main set. I just got lucky with one or two things. Now whenever I don't have time to play, I invest the ME for uv crafting.
Patience. It's better to get the recipes from Basil whenever possible. If he doesn;t have what you want, buy something other people want and auction it.
I don't really use sparks for mats, I get tons just from monsters, and I use the sparks for trinkets (for what little they really do)
friend AND guild. On top of that, NEVER start your own party if you want to save energy. Even if it means losing your vitapod/vials, it's generally better to leave at each subtown and rejoin a different group.
And yeah it's generally worth it to clear t1 and t2 first, that 500cr fee can add up quick, especially if you do a lot of boss runs.
Wow, Batabii, my first 5* set was:
Volcanic Demo Suit
Mad Bomber Mask
Barbarous Thorn Shield
Nova Driver
Stagger Storm
Leviathan Blade
Also have a Gran Faust and a plague Needle. Never spent money. Joined 5 months ago now. Crafted the Leviathan first. A good all purpose sword made things a lot easier and let me go into levels I couldn't survive in before.
The Barbarous Thorn shield was next because of the ease of getting Furmious Fangs and the dmg bonus: medium that 5* gives.
I had no problem paying for recipies at the AH before I could make Basil runs. (doing the first half of Tier 3 to get to the Basil selling 5 star recipies) It actually was faster to buy them at the AH and pay the extra 3 - 5 thousand cr.
Now I always keep at least 25 thousand cr and sit around looking at my friend and guild list to see when somebody gets to lvl 23 and ask if there are the few recipies I need but there never are. Wanting to save those few thousand cr and becoming more stingy has meant moving way slower with crafting.
I'm not a person who plays the energy market or buys all the recipies at basil to resell at the AH. My tactic to make energy is not ever revive more than twice. Try to always join a party and then go solo to skip an early level or two, and try to always do the rest of the tier until I get to a town.
Only other thing I did is to learn how to play Blast Net and Lockdown so that I could actually win games. The better you are at those, the more cr you can make on the side and you can use the Krogmo coins to buy Mod Calibrators, which are worth around 10 thousand cr if auctioned.
I started around half of april, i didn't craft too many 4* items before the crafting cost rise, my playtime was generally limited. All people did back in the days was collecting a huge list to jump in the even stratums for huge profit. I haven't really concentrated on crafting 4-5* items because well, i could just make 3* items with the mist and everyone was saying that the raw crown output from T3 wasn't worth it so i kept at doing that. Every few days i wouldn't have time to play so i just ragecrafted Haze Bombs and once i got a CTR:High iirc, i sold it for messy 1800CE iirc, yes, puny. Man, was i naive back then. And then the crafting cost grew, i've had crafted a Wise Owlite Shield day before it but i didn't equip it, so i put it up to the Auction House for 80k CR (CE was around 5k cr back then) and it sold almost instantly, that was also a major messup on my side (i could get way more if i had waited some time), still, it took me only 350CE to craft so it was still well worth it, i've basically had earned to craft GOS by that.
A few days later i started crafting owlite shields and horned owlite shields, both of those were selling just about to get my crafting cost back, breaking even. And during that period that i've been crafting them, which was 1 month iirc i managed to get two Maxes, both sold for hefty sums, that got me covered too and after this iirc i got my first 5* set, Vog Cub.
And then, then came something amazing - the steam players came rushing. It was amazing, all the worthless/not worth wasting time on selling them materials suddenly sold for so much, i've managed to rack in ~15k CE on selling Green Shards, Swordstones, Gremlin Gizmos, Fine Fabrics. Nowadays i just run FSC with guildies because thats the fastest, surefire way to rack in crowns.
I haven't spent a cent on the game, never was gifted anything that had any value.
I've been playing for about 2 months, give or take a week. Haven't spent a penny on the game and this is what I've got: Vog/Skolver Set, DA, GF, Barb shield and my elite trinkets.
It wasn't hard at all just requires some time, I've been playing an average of 3-4 hours per day and mostly running on CE. Once you figure what stratums to run it pays for the CE you spend and you even profit. Using the auction house is a must if you want extra profit.
For T2 I recommend running JK, not the boss if you are just going for the crowns but it is a good idea to do the boss if you can to get the tokens. Once I got my avenger and one ash tail piece I started soloing JK and with the profit and the selling of sealed swords I managed to get into T3. After that I conitnued JK till I got my DA and a faust and started on T3, after that just choose stratums you can handle and crowns will pay off even before terminal sometimes, not to mention all the drops.
I've been playing with no guns at all, just got my antigua for hitting switches but only got it because I had a lot of jelly gems.
So well, that's all I can think of, any question just shoot.
I think it took me a little over two months to get a 5* set (5 5* items total)... I personally like the pace and don't understand why people would be so eager to get it much faster.
I know it won't be 100% F2P, but just spending $1 with a cellphone to get multiple accounts is well worth it.
You'll get discounts at crafting, getting trinket slots, etc.
I was f2p until tg Regali event. This was also when CE was 3k-4k, and you could craft 4* items and sell them, already unbound. So, I bought me an Ash Tail Set for 20k CR, a Wise Owlite Shield for 13k CR, a Silversix for 10k CR, and some guy just gave me a Flamberge, either 3 or 4*. So yeah, I was lazy. And yes, I got that all very cheaply, since it was before the Unbinding patch. (I could craft 4/5* items and not have to unbind them). Soon then I created Knights and Day... And did runs, found an Avenger recipe, etc. I got to 5*. Then shortly after I got 5*... "Rose Regalia event!". Not knowing much, I only bought 1 package and got a white tabard. Again, not knowing much, I bound it and found it meh on all of my gear. (o.\) I bought a red set then, with some of my CE an CE fromthe package, etc. I just need a White Chap, THEN I can quit the game. :-P
I never spent a penny on this game but I got almost all 5*
Vog Cub Coat
Vog Cub Cap
Aegis
Barbarous Thorn Shield
DA
GF
Grand Flourish
Wild Hunting Blade
FOV
Blitz Needle
Sentenza
Silversix
Levi Blade
I got almost all of these during the holiday when I can play around 2 hours every other day (got volunteer :)). But that was back when the CE price was around 5k
im entirely f2p and it took me about four months to get the majority of my gear to 5* (i say majority because in the gear i use, my gigawatt pulsar is 4*) my fsc armor consists of vog, a volcanic plate, a DA, a CIV, and a gigawatt pulsar. mainly, the only challenge i have faced is being patient, and watching fun stuff slip by like not being able to buy the chapeau you want, or that one accessory. if you just take your time, and save up your cr, its really not that difficult, and you get some wicked skills in the process. hope this helps!
took me around 2-3 months to get 5* stuff (i stopped being a full time swordie at 4* and started to be a gunner from scratch). at the beginning i only play on mist. patience is your best friend.
I have been playing since SK is available on steam.
current equips
5*:
nameless hat
nameless poncho
biohazard
blitz needle
callahan
magma driver
nova driver
polaris
4*
volt driver
wise owlite
dark thorn shield
heavy plate shield
ash tail coat
ash tail cap
dark thorn blade
avenger
faust
I'm a f2p player since April.
Instead of going for all 5* stuff I went the collector's route. I have a 5* weapon and a 5* armor and 4* for everything else but that's because I use all my cr on recipe collecting and Basil runs dont give you much cr.
I have 38 sword, 31 gun, 26 bomb, 30 helm, 33 armor, and 27 shield recipes which would definitely total up to more than enough to make me full 5*
playing every day
farm lot's of arena's
join friends at basil (more crown for your ME)
lot's of trading with TF2 stuff
selling recipes
and i don't know how long it took me to finish my first set (now i have 3 armor sets 5* and a few weapons at 5*) because i got a lucky drop in TF2 i managed to score a nice amount of CE
I was a 100% F2P player that ended up with something like two dozen 5* items and (the equivalent of) 50kCE. It is most certainly possible to do.
You can make far more per day from the AH than it is possible to get from the clockworks, even if you played in the clockworks 24/7. The problem with saying that all problems with F2P being hard is to just resell recipes, etc. is that if even 10-20% of F2P tried to do it, the profit margin for everything would drop to zero. As it is right now, you are up against people who have free ME to craft with, either because they have several paid accounts, or several computers, or elevator passes, or via means that are ToS violations.
If you do try crafting, you have to find items that are popular enough to sell, but not obviously popular. Things like wolver coats/caps attract far too many crafters and the profits drop to almost nothing even if the ME is free. I used to do things like the angelic and gunslinger 3* lines, but they got too crowded, so I switched to swiftstrike bucklers, until i switched to elite sword/bomb module trinkets.
i'l be back to read all the comments later, thx guys!
Hmmmm.....on my previous account, it took about 3 weeks to make my first 5* item, Combuster. I basically did Roarmulus run to get catalyzer/pulsar (whichever was worth more at the time in AH), then did JK runs to get an Antigua (worth more than sealed usually). I would sell the catalyzer to make about 30k crowns, use that to get energy to unbind the Antigua, and then sell the Antigua for 50k-60k crowns. Then I would use that to buy the CE necessary after getting the recipe and everything. This was when I was in ash tail armor.
In 2 months, the 5* items I made were: Combuster, Hail Driver, Barbarous thorn blade (conveniently made it JUST before lockdown was introduced), Gran Faust, Iron Slug (regret making this to this day), Cold Iron Vanquisher, and furious Flamberge (made it because I found the 5* recipe for 13k at AH). I got lucky once and sold thebombhead mask for 93k crowns when it was first introduced.
Even though I made all these 5* weapons, I stayed in ash tail armor and the wise owlite shield I got for free. (Some extremely nice yet partially insane 5* person got it as a drop and gave it to me). I never saw the need to go 5* armor for some reason.
I deleted my previous account, because I wasted over 800k crowns. I ended up selling Hail driver, CIV, Iron Slug, Combuster, Furious Flamberge, all to make BTB and GF. I got bored, even though I did pretty good in PvP.
*** Skip here if you don't want to read the above
Stayed in 4* ash tail armorand shield, Made 5* weapons only, eventually sold most of them (except GF and BtB),
Took 2 months for the whole process.
Ways to make crowns:
Do JK/FSC runs; don't die and CE revive too much
Sell popular recipes (GF went for 40k last time I checked)
Craft 3* items and sell for profit (like Dusker: something popular)
Buy CE cheap: Sell for Lorre
Do solo pre- terminal runs in tier 3 for mats. (I was able to get 8 sunsilvers on one day when the emerald adis was available)
Sell boss token items: makes quick cash (Antigua and catalyzer take one day to sell 100% of the time)
***Remember, this ALL was pre-elevator/shadow key times. Who knows how the economy will do.....
I am all Free To Play I have one 5★, My trick was to quest through forums looking for deals when I found one I bought it and later on sold it, a way of not spending alot of cr or ce is to craft from 3★ or lower, if you want a weapon make sure it goes to 5★ you dont want a weapon that stops earlier on, dont borrow and if you must borrow make sure it is low amounts because when you need more cr/ce for something else you get someone hounding on your for theyre money if you do buy something off of AH or another player always get a round-about price so you dont get ripped off , in crafting always weight til you get you mist energy all the way up because it saves you money well spent somewhere else, oh and craft a item at a time don't try to heat 3 items at once its terribly slow
Btw those are the easys tips there more advanced ones which I follow
I feel like I am ranting now anyways my gear is :
★★★★ Ash tail coat/ Sunset duster
★★★★★ Nameless Hat
★★★★ BlackHawk
★★★★ Avenger
★★★★ Heavy plate shield
so to sum it up for adventuring:
farm jk for crowns, and sellable weapons
try to start form depth 14
anyone care to elaborate how to earn profits in the AH, besides recipe selling?
@Juances p2p players get a discount on crafting?
As a warning, Smogrn is a known troll and imbecile, so don't take anything he says at face value.
@Tammytryhard thx, btw, i can't understand a thing he says anyway
I haven't taken note of my typical crown income per 100 energy in a while, but I'm pretty sure it's trivial to get 6000cr out of a day's mist by delving through the clockworks. I'll also assume that 100ce costs 7000cr because that is also a round number (and slightly compensates for the low income estimate).
A set of 5* gear includes helm, armor, shield, and 2 weapons. This requires 48,900cr per item for a total of 244,500cr. It takes 41 days to earn the crowns required to buy all the recipes. The energy cost of the base 2* versions of all equipment can be neglected by crafting 2 per day for 3 days. Energy costs of the remaining item upgrades sum up to 1100ce per item for a total of 5500ce for the set. With the assumed income and conversion rates, it would take 9 weeks (65 days) to buy the ce required to craft the 5* set. In total it takes 109 days to assemble a 5* set under these conditions. That seems to fit many of the anecdotes shared by other players in this thread.
@Tammytryhard: I recommend that you review the forum rules.
Chrono-Chaos, stop spamming the Subject field. Nobody mentioned anything about the dark ritual.
I am F2P, and I started last March. It took about a month of playing (2hrs a day) to get to my first 5* item, and another month to get all 5* gear.
The most important piece of advice I have is: Join an active guild.
Once I did that, the rest was easy. Teamwork helps everyone.
Took me a month and a half
It was really great
Never gonna quit playing
~Xeirla
P.S That Haiku wasn't even intended XD
and 5-3-5 =7-5-7
dont hate >.>
It took me two months and one week. Pretty much I played about 90 minutes every day.
