Actually I think this is not the full truth, although it would be cool to be some sort of evil badass bastard :)

From what I've understood, the Almire Kingdom was there before Vanaduke came or at least became what he is now (frustrated by this enourmous belly he got due to the tasty food he was served by all those rawwwwrr Almirian girls... and then turned into evil rampage bastard.. or so).
So when the Duke we know today took over control, the kingdom was shattered, and any remains of the alimiran army were pretty much wiped out.

Reaons why I think it must be this way:
- You can obtain a Blackened Crest for Vanaduke Tokens. But if you check the description, you find out it needs polishing to regain its former glory.
"A shield once carried by a knight of Almire, now a cursed relic that has been nearly burned beyond recognition within the Firestorm Citadel. Very powerful alchemy would be required to restore it to its former glory. " - http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Blackened_Crest
- Almirian armor is vulnerable to fire... if the Alimiran crusaders were minions of Vanaduke... they'd burn to death all day when carelessly running into some fire pit. Does not really make sense. But it would explain why the kingdom of Almire has lost the battle - wrong armor stats.... nearly every newbie knight knows that - what a fail :)

So, OOO - go for Renegade Blackened Crusad000r suit! Please D:

Just interesting that the armor fits so nicely to the size and shape of a Knight. I wonder who those Almirians were... there might be a connection to the Core lurking somewhere.
