Mineral Conversion to Shards

I remember when I was a noob, I at first thought that minerals were the way to get shards...later, I found out I did not have 100 Dark Shards, but 100 units of Dark Matter. :P

However, this makes me think: what would SK be like if there was a conversion vendor? I mean, it would allow a player (such as myself or the person reading this) to use some CR and units of minerals to produce Shards (at a relatively cheap price...otherwise it would be useless for its function).

For example, I could give to the vendor, say, 900 CR and 30 units of Crimsonite (thirty crowns per unit...prices could differ based on the mineral), and recieve 15 Red Shards. This way, you are still getting less Red Shards for Crimsonite, but the ablility to do so does not undermine the Auction market for shards either; it could, in fact, help the market and players who don't use it.

I think a conversion vendor would fit (most likely not at my prices!), but what do my fellow Knights think?

You can buy shards form other

You can buy shards form other people as cheap as 10-15/unit if you know where to search (try haven 75, spanish people are cheap), althought there seems to be a green shortage.
15 red shards would costs way less than 900, plus you'd still have the crimsonite to deposit at gates and regain some profit.
Too much waste.

Precisely!

The reason I mentioned this was because it might even the power of players somewhat. By giving smaller players an opportunity to grow using the shard market, they can grow and become better player. By using minerals, players are motivated to do more runs, especially with others. Along with this, not many players know "exactly" where to go for shard purchases; I certainly don't, as I did this post!

Also, I had mentioned that my prices would be too high; I just was using it as an example as I couldn't think of any better numbers at the time! :P You do have a good point though, mentioning the profit gained from gates. This was simply a suggestion to promote thought.

-1 ....I don't think it can work.

But shards are about 5-10 per unit, ant since you get about 3cr per mineral, you'd still make profit. Plus I dont see how this would help the market, as the newer players would still have to pay to get shards which in turn gives them less shards than their mineral amount, ergo less profit ( not even to mention the newer players have only a few 100 cr and are very greedy with CE >.>).

You also forgot that you only get half of the amount of minerals. Basically this system seems a bit wasteful and doesn't rack in much, if any profit (unless in Green Shards). Facing facts, the experienced players already have 1000s of shards, and newer players are too cheap to pay. <---System fail

And you stated:
"By giving smaller players an opportunity to grow using the shard market, they can grow and become better player. "

By giving smaller players an opportunity to grow using the MINERAL DEPOSIT, they can grow and become a better player.

If you have shards, you can mass-sell them at the Auction House. If you have minerals (which you should get a lot per full run) Than drop them in the mineral deposit. I once got 3000cr using auto sell on a worthless gate (100 of each mineral), so assuming they never deposited any, those "smaller players" could easily gain profit without any need for shards, conversions, or SPENDING CR. They wont want to spend cr at all if the price seems high, they'd rather craft with it. And knowing the shard price is cheaper to buy than conversion, which again, mineral deposits are pure profit, they would better buy the shards from the AH instead for a fraction of the price, OR use the amount of the most common material they have to craft: SHARDS

I do not see how this system could work without a player losing cr in the process and ending up with no profit. Also It would not affect the AH price of shards because the T3 players and such will already have a massive amount of shards, so....

Less demand, surplus of supply = price goes down

Unless we happened upon all our shards disappearing from the game's common random drop, tons per ANY run, the value of shards are near nothing. I can sell 20 of any of them on the AH and still get 1 cr profit, with an abundant supply left in my hands.
The "power of players" you refer to is the CE market. Unless those players buy CE or get to T2-3, they won't gain any "power", but let's not drag THAT topic back to life...

This conversion system doesn't seem like it could help anyone really, and because this is a suggestions thread, I don't support this idea.

P.S
"not many players know "exactly" where to go for shard purchases"
Auction House has everything :D. That or just run into a haven shouting "WTB Shards!!!!"

short version

Players will 'grow' more depositing minerals for 3cr than selling shards. The only shard marketable are green ones because of wolver stuff.
