Basically, im making more gear for SL, and wanted to know from other people's personal experience what status affects caused them problems. Mainly, do you think some curse resistance would be beneficial for DF Vanaduke? Im guessing he still has fire everywhere, but is curse just as common? For the SL IQ is piercing or shadow more predominant? If theres any other status affects which are important, it'd be helpful to list those as well :)
Extra Resistances for SL. Mainly Curse for DF Vanaduke
Oh forgot heavenly iron, there's very little shock at ufsc so that with uv fire max is even better option i think due to probably higher defenses than a gunner armor (havent compared)
@Bluemach, im not a developer :) Just a long time playing member with an alt called Spiral-Wiki which i dont use since I cant transfer my items accross ^^
@Giannii, Thanks ^^ That was alot of useful information. Im used to normal Vana, but i wasnt sure how much of a problem curse would be with all the SL changes. Though overall I was mainly thinking of the vanaduke room. As for missing your coat.. D:< well.. theres always next time :p Besides, i got some max curse stuff to play around with ^_^
I'll get some runs into this for personal experience, and see what bothers me most :p I'll drop some feedback here after, if anyone is interested ^^
There is an abundance of Normal damage as well, what with all the Trojans and Slag Guards. So having Normal defense could help.
A VPS would probably do you well shield-wise though I've went with BTS and did fine.
Concerning Darkfire Vana. If you're up for a slow and steady way I did it this way my last trip. Essentially fight like normal, but whenever you die stay dead, even if you get revived (except during Phases 2 & 4).
What ended up happening in my case is I was the one alive (this player should be the one with the best DPS) and my three team mates stayed dead but were revived so they acted like CE-less revives. It's really easy to control mob aggro and get hits on Vana just by running in large circles so I just did that. Mind you I never charge attacked with my Needle, just one burst of fire, run some more. Rinse and repeat. If I ever died, one of my party members would get up and rez me, then I'd rez them when they died and it'd continue on like this.
It's really hard to die like this because you stay alive for such a long period of time that Vanaduke ends up resummoning mobs. And this gives you hearts, which let you keep the rez chain going.
So that's a slow and steady way for Phases 1, 3, and 5.
Another option I did during my first run was that I took Vana's aggro and got him to charge up into the top section of the map, then I just kept getting him to attack either west or easy. Keeping him right up against the north wall. My teammates then handled the mobs and then helped do DPS to Vana after the mobs were dead.
Concerning Phases 2 & 4. These become infinitely easier if you can get it so that the radius of the innermost fireball's path is greater than the distance from the mask to a fountain. If you can get this, then you can easily chain-water the mask and kill it. Otherwise it might be a tad more difficult.
That sounds like it would work well, but id only really do that if it looked like we were gonna be wiped out. I guess it just depends on the party. As for charging him to the top of the map. That sounds like a nice stratigy. Overall you really just want to have fun, and having one person do vana slowly really isn't for me.
Curse is just as common unless your party is well oiled and knows how to handle each area without damage (pros at ufsc). Technically ufsc can be done with one shiver, but then comes the problem when the guy with it gets cursed, chaos may ensue. Fire wasn't that big of a deal until vanaduke itself, this due to the fire balls, because the shadow fire eventually goes outside the battle arena.
Having said that I was invited once to a run and we managed. With that lack of experience the perfect armor would be Divine Veil and Wolver Coat with a combination of Curse Max + med, and Fire med uvs (ie veil with curse max and coat with 2uv fire med curse med which I already sold sorry :P). So that you had max resist for both. I think that would be best to the shivermist user, as statuses break your freezing, the remedies saved for the key battles where you can't wait a second. The setup makes you weak to straight hits however as they are a combination of normal and shadow mostly. If you lack one of them I would give preference to curse resist.
A swordie/gunner could rather use deadshot with fire max uvs so they get normal, shadow and high resist to both statuses, you can achieve max curse with it if you get one piece with 2UV Max fire med curse :P
I couldn't see any good strategy for the boss battle itself besides do your best to cover something, freezing didn't work because the constant roof falling breaks the ice too often from the slag guards and add to that getting cursed or grabbed by zombies or hit by vanaduke. Im used to freeze the adds (and not vana) in regular fsc runs, some players want an honorable fight with duke so I just keep the slags under control in a corner, but couldn't handle that well here because of the extra minions. I would have done better just killing them.
