is dragon scale shield any good or should i just go for barbarous thorn shield.

Dragon Scale Shield
The Dragon Scale Shield is a gunslinger's shield, because it's directed towards taking pure special damage, which can currently only be inflicted by projectiles in Tier 3. It is therefore strictly a Tier 3 shield against turrets and other enemies that fire special projectiles (should there be any), and should not be used in prior Tiers or in close range.

What are you trying to shield? If it is Beasts/Jellies then the BTS is a great fit.
The Dragon Scale Shield is somewhat of an oddball, I think that it is much better to have a dedicated elemental shield like Owlite and a dedicated piercing shield like BTS.
