At what level do most people leave the Rescue Camp to start their journey into Haven?
I'm level 9...
I think I've spent a little too much time in the Rescue Camp...?

I have no idea...oh I just realized I think it's the level of my heat? I don't know. I'm a total newb (as of like 2 days ago) and don't really understand the leveling structure of this game. Maybe it's not making sense because I'm still in the Rescue Camp...?
Each time I finish the depth1 of the training grounds, it adds up the heat I collected and when the bar is filled it adds 1 to the level. Currently the level is at 9, half way to 10.
I'm wearing whatever gear you start out with the second you start the game...so I think those are zero haha.
Any enlightenment about all this leveling and ( * ) level things would be appreciated. :)
Basically, Heat is the closest this game has to experience. However, it isn't really you, the character, that is receiving the experience. Your equipment is what really is leveling up. Each piece of equipment can be leveled up to lvl10, gradually becoming stronger and stronger per level. If you look closely at the stats of your weapon/armor (it may be impossible to see right now for your gear), you can see a faint dark blue bar that represents the stats of the weapon/armor at lvl10 (Here is a pic from the wiki that shows what I mean: http://media.spiralknights.com/wiki-images/e/ec/Stats-closeup.png ). Normally, weapons and armor gain benefits at lvl5 and lvl10 (Like +health for armor or faster charge time for weapons). Heat is also specific to a certain pieces of equipment, so if you get a new sword, the heat will not transfer over, and the sword will be at lvl1.
Most people don't refer to someone else via their level of heat (Heat doesn't have much of an impact on gameplay). Most of the time you are classified by the number of stars on your equipment. Generally, more stars, the better the piece of wargear.
The default weapons/armor have 0 stars (0*). Once you get to Haven, you can buy 0* equipment for 150 Crowns (the currency of the game), 1* equipment for 3000 Crowns, and 2* equipment for 7500 Crowns. There are pieces of wargear that go beyond 2* that you can find the Merchants selling, but it is not worth it to buy from them. If you want to buy your gear, it is best to go to the Auction House. I managed to snag a Calibur, a good 2* sword, for a little more than 1900 Crowns at the Auction House, within about 10 Seconds of searching. But I digress. The more stars a piece of equipment has, the better it generally is. Therefore, most people tend to judge others based on how many stars their equipment has.
Ah hah, thanks for the explanation, Anakletos. I had a feeling the leveling up process had something to do with the number of stars your equipment had but I wasn't sure if it was like other MMO's where you had to get more XP to get higher levels to get better gear, etc. etc.
This clears it up for me though. Looks like I spent a couple days leveling my 0* gear to 10 in the training grounds hahaha. I just finished the march to Haven in about 3 minutes. Wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be...though the jumping, biting skeletons caught me off guard, I'll admit haha.
Anyways, thanks for the help and understanding, Anakletos. Much appreciated. :)
Ps. I'm starting off Haven with nearly 5k crowns. Not too shabby I'd say. ^_^
Anytime. Glad to help out.
Also, I suggest you don't spend those 5k Crowns at the Merchants in the Bazaar. 5k can get you FAR more stuff at the Auction House than from the merchants. Most newbie guides (that you can find on this forum) will tell you the "standard" build that is a good, all-round, jack-of-all-trades type build which works through most of the game.
Another thing to remember is that you don't HAVE to buy gear pre-made. You can buy recipes (which are much cheaper than the actual weapon being only 1000 Crowns for a 2* recipe) and make as many of the item as you want provided that you have the Energy, Crowns, and Materials (50 Energy and 400 Crowns to make something from a 2* recipe). This also gives you a chance to get a Unique Variant (UV) on you gear which gives it extra abilities like Attack Speed Increase for weapons or specialized defense types if it's armor or a shield.
oooOOooooo...good to know. Thanks for the heads up, Ubernerd!
I have read some of the comments you got some time ago. So if you get to the auction house, if u look close enough, there is a sort button and if you click it, there are different ways to sort the items in the auction house, i do the Buy Price sort so i can find the cheapest cost of the item i want. I do that a lot, I hope this helps :).
Another thing to keep in mind is to decide what you want to do early on. For example; if you buy wolver gear, then upgrade it to 3* or higher before deciding "I think i like bombing better." you could lose a lot of crowns on a profession that you don't intend on following. A lot about SK is making sure you're spending your limited resources efficiently. =)
I did that by accident one time Equillora! lol XD. When i was still starting this game and was like tier 1 and had some 0* items, i accidently bought a calibur at the auction house, and forgot i crafted one D: but fortunately, someone bought it off me. and i accidently got bolted blade when i should have asked if it was better than calibur D: So it's a good thing that you said that Equillora.
lol, then you'll love my story! when I first started playing SK I decided to play it smart (or at least that's what i thought) by buying cobalt gear, in other words, all the equipment Kozma sells. eventually I reached 4* with a calibur a blaster and nothting else. I was pumped for my first T3 delve, however after several T3 runs I discovered that between the difficulty of T3 and my armor. there was no way I could continue without switching to some form of specialization. Now I'm working on getting an ash tail set and a variety of swords. The cobalt armor is good and for people who can't decide what "class" to be I recommend sticking with cobalt, but don't take it too far. the sooner you start on a specialization, the better.
Thanks for the extra tips Nalydx & Equillora! I've decided to go Gunslinger thanks to some help & advice from IGN Leafchime (not sure of their forum username). :)
Sworder
Gunner
Bomber
Pick which of the 3 you prefer and your all set
Everyone here pretty much told you the stuff you need to know already so i can't add anymore
Your on good paths so good luck!
Godzy, that's not what "your" means.
@Jailie Oh and don't forget, there are armors and helmets that you can buy that will make your guns stronger, just a short heads up since you will be a gunslinger. :)
I take it you've already seen the wiki's gunslinger guide?

Sepent, I have looked at it. Still getting used to directional shooting via mouse/WASD. I had a very friendly player meet me in game and explained a ton as well as convinced me to practice at WASD as I shared with them that in all other MMO's I've played, I've made do without having to use WASD. I'm just not dexterous with my left hand and often get all my directions mixed up when under pressure lol. I am more than words than can express grateful, though for all the help (in every form) that Leafchime (unsure of forum username) provided me. :)
So I'm continuing to practice my WASD and gun slinging skillz ;) Getting better....though I need to figure out what kind of do-hickeys I need to get a faster reload haha. Ah such is the life of a newbie. ^_^
I do appreciate all the helpful hints, do and don'ts and fyi's! :) Much thanks, everyone!
PS. I surprised myself and defeated Snarbolax solo last night! haha Just needed to gloat in all my newbie glory. ;)
PPS. I'm in game as of 12:30pm PST (1:30pm MST, 2:30pm CST, 3:30pm EST) if anyone wants to chill out in newbie land with me. :] IGN=Jailie
Well different guns have different reload times and clip sizes. If you ever get the extra 2 slots, I would suggest you get 3 guns and 1 sword.
i went to haven straight after the first training lessen, easy if u ask me >.>
^^^ I should have done that as well but I didn't really know what you were supposed to do in the rescue camp so I just kept running training grounds until I made this thread and got some insight. ;) Left RC with lvl 10 0* gear hahaha
For my first time through, I went into the clockworks once and then went into haven. My second time, I stayed in the Rescue camp until I had amassed every single piece of equipment there was, then I stayed there handing out free stuff to first time players and taking them through the clockworks. I'm still there, actually, idk why, I just kind of like helping the newbies through the first part of their game. Also, convincing them I am an AI helper sent to show them around is fun too...
That was rlly nice of you bro. i have a similiar story. when i rose to the rank of guildmaster in my first guild, the Wolver Pack (R.I.P.) i gave full wolver sets to almost every noobie in the guild. Klanko ( the other guildmaster) told me that i was wasting my money, but i enjoyed hearing the uberhappy ramblings of my underlings upon recieving free 2* gear.
Most likely, you have. I still have some of my old gear, which is hovering around lvl4 to lvl5, and I think I spent a bit longer than I probably should of.
The journey is not as difficult as the flavor text made it seem (at least for me, after I completely redid most of the controls to something a bit more FPS-like).
Although what are you classifying as your "level"? Are you talking about the level of your gear (maxes out at 10 for future reference)?
