Which one of those two does more damage to jellies and lichens? Im just asking for those two, i know that cautery sword doesnt have upgrades. Im just wondering what is most effective to have high damage against that type or to have a type of damage that works on them.

Nightblade does more damage
Nightblade does more damage than the Cuatery sword, as well as going to 5*.

you most definitely want the nightblade. a nightblade does more damage than a cautery sword and the nightblade can be leveled all the way to 5*. The cautery sword is one of those items in-game that really doesn't have a use.

Since you get the damage bonus from shadow damage anyway, and you can also stack damage buffs to really outdamage cautery sword. (even without upgrading it to 4/5*)

nightblade. I, in my 7ish months playing SK, have never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever(etc) ever seen anyone with a cautery sword. Closest I got was when my bro was playing and he saw someone. Heck, I don't even think anyone sells them in the AH even(correct me if wrong)!

Cautery Sword is the runt of the Brandishes. Avoid it.
It even says this on the wiki. The Cautery Sword's one use, killing slimes, is made completely useless as the Nightblade does more damage anyways. And Cautery can't go past 3*. It has no practical uses whatsoever
I think Night blade does more damage to them. Not completely sure though.
