So I joined a party, cost 10 energy. I then landed in the "Clockwork Terminal" thus having to pay another 10 energy to follow my new party down again.
There's nothing in the "Clockwork Terminal", sucks I had to pay with energy to land there!

I don't think you lose the 10 CE unless you join a group mid-floor or you appear in the terminal AND you take an elevator down. Also, spawning in the terminal gives you an opportunity to check the recipe vendor and grab a mineral before taking that first elevator.
Hell, I'd pay 10ce easy. Spawning in the halfway trader is if anything, lucky.
Lucky? Except you end up paying 20 energy to see your 1st monster.
Read the thread and try again.
Spawning at the vendor is only good if you have money to spend on him. If you're still collecting funds, it's a waste for that player.
Some of this could probably be avoided if players could see the location of the party they are about to join, or if they had the option to limit where they would join groups.
I'm interested in that bit about only spending the energy when you take the elevator - I will test that.
spawning at the vendor nets you some free minerals regardless, if your group is at all competent. Whether or not it costs you energy is the big question.
...and your suggestion is? :)
No, but seriously, this issue has been raised by a number of users, although I usually see complaints about people landing in Moorcraft Manor with parties who are finishing a run and leaving afterwards (so wasting 10CE like in your case). There is definitely some improvement that needs to be made so people don't wind up joining parties at a mid-point, or that allow you to continue on solo if your party mates don't have the energy to finish. Will the system ever be perfect? Probably not, but better, I'm betting.
In the meantime you could start your own party and let people join rather than jump into an unknown situation.
