It's been a few weeks 1 or 2 I believe. And I have to say, best purchase out of all the accounts i have had has to be this energy pass. I mean, we all hate grinding. The game says it doesn't do grinding but for us F2P players we have to grind to keep playing.Tho the game really is still free to play, to keep playing it's a bit difficult. Grinding is BORING. I hate grinding. I only do it because I have a purpose and that is to make crowns to get things I want. I love this pass tho. So much FUN FUN FUN! BFFFTTT!! I love challenges. Even if it causes defeat and I throw a fiss, It is F - U - N. I just hope it stays cheap I would love paying monthly for it. Best 7$ of my life. Ty Mom. That's all I need in life! 7$! Bahaha!
You gotta stay with this pass Three Rings. ;)
Ignoring the somewhat disturbing response from The-Rawrcake...
A lot of people actually hate the Elevator Pass. Most people blame it for the price of CE (buying with Crowns obviously). Although, for a few precious Hours, I did see the price dip down to 6.5k this afternoon, but last I checked it is back to 7.4k.
I bought the pass and i love it :D
Consumers will be consumers. Honestly if we just stopped giving in to "wallstreet", prices for sure would come down. I think OOO probably did this pass to try and help those F2P & probably that is why they made them cheap at 7$. I'm not sure if it's a success but it does help. It's the want of CE. We treat it as the need. And exactly who are selling CE 24/7? Seriously I know there has to be something fishy there. Even before the player base jump. NOTE: I am a young adult and was merely TEASING. tyvm. Born on halloween 92! ;D (kind of) I'm the devil's child my friend.
*dances around with kinkypenguin* 8D oyaikitzbeast.
I think the pass improves my overall playing experience, considering how many non-boss runs I go on these days. It just feels more fun now that I don't have to worry profit versus energy y'know?
What Knightrails said.
With the pass, I run about 20 levels daily and spend my mist tabbing friends, crafting or reviving, opening energy gates etc.
Much richer experience, and I don't restrict myself to the "luctrative" boss levels anymore - yes, it's more fun.
I can't stand the fact that this pass exists, and I hope OOO stops selling it as soon as possible. Anyone that would normally buy ce buys an elevator pass, so they can earn more crowns and buy all of that ce that is not being purchased with real money.
This ultimately causes a crown inflation with less ce that exists. The featured auctions took out a lot of crowns from the economy, but it'd be nice if there were also some cheaper, featured auctions for not-as-rare items that more people can afford (to drain more crowns).
"I think OOO probably did this pass to try and help those F2P & probably that is why they made them cheap at 7$."
^You aren't being sensible in the slightest.
So, it's utter BS that the pass prevents people from buying CE.
You bought less ce than you would have/could have purchased otherwise.
My point still stands.
Down with elevator passes!
Actually, I like the pass idea, I bought it, and I haven't bought any CE with crowns ever since, and I hope that OOO reimplements the pass, the way how your gameplay can change is great, not having to worry about being profitable, etc.
I actually bought some CE with the 25% discount, and used it for crafting (made a lot of 5* items), while a lot of people says that they are bad because they give you an infinite amount of crowns, well in practice you would need to spend an infinite amount of time for that, which I value more than CR or CE.
I think they removed the pass with the last update, but I hope they re add it later, the game is simply better with it. and really, CE didn't got that much more expensive with it.
I bought the SAME amount of CE i would have AND bought the pass.
If they kept the pass I would continue to buy it monthly whereas I would not buy CE monthly, so long term, they get more money from me by selling the pass.
Haters gonna hate and just can't see another viewpoint because the hate gets in their eyes.
While there aren't infinitely more crowns, you can't deny the fact that more crowns exist because of it. Why sit around in haven after using 10 "free" elevators when you can keep playing for "free," right?
If I recall correctly, ce prices increased by about 1000 crowns after elevator passes were implemented, which is a large increase.
The recent CE price dip was purely due to market manipulation of some kind. Yesterday I witnessed at least 1,000 sets of 100CE being sold via the "Buy Crowns for CE" button into the market, which brought it down to a low of 6.3-6.4k per 100. I suppose a hoarder dumped their CE pile for the crowns and used them to buy some of the rare items.
yes, however, the spike was in what, 1 day?
I think it was more related to the panic against the elevator pass (a lot of people buying CE before it raises, causing it to raise), and then, granted, remained there, with more crowns in circulation, however I wonder if there wasn't any panic, how long would it actually take it to raise to that level.
in any case, what matters the most was the behavior of the majority of players, not our opinions, heh, so we can only wait and see if OOO goes forward with the passes (hopefully it does IMO).
There are two ways to see the big picture here. Either you can see it Triphorce's way that this pass = lack of CE sellers or you can see it my way that this pass = lack of CE buyers meaning that prices should be going down more. I don't know what would be Three Ring's intentions for this pass or there intentions in general as a company . Of course as all companies that come to birth, their main goal from the start is to draw in money from there customers. The more the better & they must find ways to do this. OOO had different goals in the way they wanted the game but us players are who are in control of how we want the game to be like. AH was made because we demanded it. Unbinding was made because we demanded as well. Spirals Knights it's free to play since it's one of the best ways to make profit than being P2P since it's still new and kind of still a bit unknown to the world. They can make more profit this way since eventually F2P start buying products from the game if they are cheap, affordable for them, and if they will be worth the money. And this is why I am a liberal. BAHAHAHAHA.
How can a game be in capitalism i have to ask? I've never seen any other mmo game out there that has players controlling the economy. Three Rings is crazy. If SEGA was in charge, I wonder what they would do. *laughs to himself maniacally*
What baffles me is how can the CE sellers be selling 24/7! Even on reboots. Every single day, every month, time doesn't matter. There has to be a time gap some where that no one is selling any CE.
And the punch-line is it's hoards of CE!
I'm a free to play player. As such, I do not have the pass, but I know people who do so I kinda know both sides of the story. Here's my opinion:
If the pass stays around full time, P2P players will be discouraged from buying raw CE because they'll have more fun just playing and buying the stuff with crowns, no matter how expensive it gets. While we haven't seen it so bad yet, this will drain the supply of CE in the game, and the prices will skyrocket. I'm talking tens of thousands of crowns per 100CE. Because in the end, for people who have the pass that's nothing, while F2P players that's closer to a weeks worth of play. It'll also lead to divide among the player-base due to a "lol u don't have pass" sentiment, which I'm already fearing as it is now. Ultimately, F2P people will be discouraged from playing the game at all. I don't think anyone REALLY wants that.
One of the big things about Spiral Knights that I love compared to other F2P MMOs is that it's not nearly as "Pay to Win", I don't feel like I HAVE to drop $300 on this game just to have fun. It's the only F2P game I've played that lets me feel that way.
BUT at the same time, I can see how the pass has enhanced the game for so many people, and so far the impact on F2P players... honestly hasn't been that bad. 7.4k crowns for 100CE is better than what I've seen and played with in most other games. Yes it looks like a big number, but major point of the game is running the Clockworks, and the primary reason to run Clockworks is to get crowns. Not only is it not hard to get 7.4k crowns, but it's FUN. The only reason I'm against the pass at all, is because it sets up the possibility of raw CE purchases to be more and more ignored, killing the supply of it in the game and increasing the demand.
So as far as I can tell, there are three stable ways of handling the situation.
1. Mandatory: Turn the game into a subscription based game, rework Mist to function as a "demo" for the game that doesn't recharge. Cash -> CE can still exist as it is as with the play run market. The upside is that the pass, or rather it's effects, stays and there shouldn't be a cyber bullying problem over it. The downside is that the game would no longer be F2P.
2. Promotional: This is, more or less, how the pass is implemented now.Make the pass buyable with cash every so often, but not 24/7/365. I'm thinking 3 or 4 times a year, make it available for a week and last a month. The upside is that the pass can still be available at times for those who want it, without alienating F2P players, and would lead to minimal cyber bullying issues to be dealt with. The downside is that for those of us who rely on crown -> CE market for our CE, we can expect occasional spikes in pricing. Though if it'd be anything like what we see now, it shouldn't be too bad.
3. Get Rid of it: Simply put, the pass goes away never to return. Many P2P players would be alienated while the F2P crowd mostly benefits.
If I were in charge, and had to pick a method of handling the pass, I'd probably make it a promotional item, because in that situation there'd be a minimal exodus of players while Sega and OOO can still make money off both CE and the pass. From the business perspective, use the pass as a means to hook players into the game.
That's my two cents. Even as a F2P I think the pass should exist in some form, but I think if it would become a 24/7/365 thing, it would eventually do too much damage to the game's internal market, and the community as a whole.
The feel if we would advance or not is what I love about Spiral Knights. Thrilll!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man that was a sexy GY run. *bows to OOO*
