I am attempting to put together the most comprehensive guide to Spiral Knights on the internet (the Wiki does not count, as it is almost exclusively information-based and does not typically have any tips/walkthroughs/instructions). It has not been updated in a while, but I am planning to release a new version soon. The guide can be found here:

Tri's Spiral Knights Guide/Walkthrough

Please leave any feedback that you may or may not have, and be sure to recommend it to other users (you can recommend it by clicking the "Click Here to recommend ..." at the top of the guide page).

Also, if you find any Type-O's or false information, let me know as well.

Enjoy!

I read it.

Pretty nice.
When it hits V1.0, mind if I make a video walkthrough of it, with minor edits?

You're welcome to make a

You're welcome to make a video guide if you want (although with it being hosted by GameFAQs I probably couldn't put it into my file), although that would be an extremely long "Let's Play" session. Unless you're deliberately going for speed a play-through (with no $$$ payments) will easily take upwards of 120-150 hours. If you wanted to make walkthrough videos, you're better off videoing individual dungeons.

Cheers!

Nice!

I didn't read it all, but the parts I did, are comprehensive and straight to the point. Congratulations!

Finished reading

Excellent work. The best early player guide I have seen.

Could this be added to the wiki, or links to the wiki be placed in it?

Might be nice to point people to some wiki content that could also be useful like the bomber guide and such.

Thanks for the positive

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys.

@Didymus I may add a section at the end, called "Useful Links," or something like that. The Wiki handles several lists that I wouldn't dare go to the trouble of writing down, so I'll probably link it for things like item lists/monster types.

I'm sad,

Really, really sad... That I didn't have this to guide me when I began playing. Well done on it!

URl to useful videos would

URl to useful videos would definitely be necessary. There're some lying around in the forum and maybe wiki too, but it doesn't hurt to group all of them together.

Some ideas could be:
- tutorial on how to use your shield (shield cancelling, shield bump, etc)
- demonstration of different types of weapons
- walk-through of some difficult arenas and maybe bosses
- inspirational videos!

Edit: woops didn't see your last post lol. But really really helpful guide :D

suggestions

Nice job overall! It is very extensive and honestly much better than the new player thing on the wiki, but there are some things you can improve on.

1) When introducing the Pickups, it'd be nice to include a pic of all of them together, or separately to show which vial is which.

2) You forgot to mention the 100 mist/ 22 hours AND that they can be used for crafting / buying slots etc. It's very important for a new player.

3) "Your character pulls out the item listed as "1" at the top of the screen." You should put a screenie of the quickslots as well... for the longest time I didn't know about the quickslots...

4) You also seemed to have left out the AH as a very important part... because most of the time to craft a 2* item would be more expensive to a new player than just simply buying it off the AH. You should add this into the crafting part xD

5) on the UV section: you didn't exactly explain what a UV does - boost the strength of the equipment in the ways specified.
Also, give a little explanation to the most desired UVs (CTR/ASI for most swords, CTR/ASI depending on the gun, and CTR for Bombs) Also link to the wiki and also give suggestions that they could always ask questions here on the arsenal forrums.

6) when introducing the strangers in Haven, you should have given a quick explanation that you should never buy equipment from them because it is much too expensive to do so... again, stress the AH.

7) When introducing the clockworks section, you could do a quick introduction about what gate names and gate icons mean, not a big lengthy intro, just a simple one and then a link to the wiki. In fact, in each section you should link the relevant pages of the wiki... Like, here is the gist, if you want to learn more or don't fully understand it yet read wiki.spiralknights.com/gates /energy etc. Considering pages on the Wiki aren't always the easiest to find... esp for a new player.

8) At the very top, I think you also need to dedicate a short section on the Energy Trade Market and how to use it... a lot of new players don't know that they can actually get above 100 Mist to craft with or do other stuff with, because they don't know that the Energy Exchange exists...

9) Just a one-liner at the top of introducing Boost, such as, you start with default 2 weapon slots and no trinket slots, which you can upgrade to 4 and 2 slots respectively with these upgrades once you get more gear and feel more confident with what to bring for different monsters.

10) When introducing the bosses, it would be nice to remind people that there are 4 active gates at any one time, and do a small screenshot of the gates to look out for at the right half of the screen on how to find the bosses... I didn't know how to read clockwork maps for a confusingly long time...

11) A bit of a typo on the Token items table..

12) When introducing the Spark pendants, it also would be nice to write what the trinkets actually did... increase passive resistance to the armor... and that it isn't really necessary in T1 / beginning of T2.

13) On introducing Punch and Vise... New players should be informed that they cannot choose which variant to get, and that it is intended as a crown sink, that they should not try to use it right off the bat, for they won't need it and surely disappointed.

I like how you've sectioned everything, but I think that if there could be more links to the wiki for further reference telling them where to look, and also more pictures and less chunks... makes it more appealing..

It's also confusing sometimes because you add a lot of personal/common knowledge in some sections, but none at all in others. But I'm sure you'll expand on it as you go on :D I do like how everything is mostly in the same place to look at, but those are the things I feel like you missed that are important.

Hope you find this helpful as I can really see this guide turning into something great (I've even bookmarked it!)

addition

Also there are many threads out there that are very helpful for new players, or data complied etc.. maybe you could find a way to incorporate those as well!

Oh just thought of something else --- difference between Armor/Helm defense and Shield defense, i.e. Passive defense vs Active defense and what it means (shield defense only works when you hold it up, shield health means how long you have before it breaks)

There was a blog that you could also link to... I forgot her name but she was playing during beta, and made a couple of helpful vids and blogs about how to use certain things in the clockworks.. and then she got angry at OOO for raising 5 star crafting prices from 300 CE 5k, to 800CE 5K (she felt that the CE that she bought with her USD suddenly was worth much less, even though they lowered recipe costs by 20k in that same update) and left the game with her friends.. someone should put her on the wiki in fact.

/ramble

Anyway, you should try to google her or someone can post the link to her blog to give you some ideas of how to make yours. I found her weapon demonstrations extremely useful and interesting...

In fact, every weapon should have one like that and linked on the Wiki.

Now I feel like my posts should be moved to the Wiki Forums.

Some errors I found in the UV

Some errors I found in the UV section.

Max on armor is 4, not 6.

There is no very high on armor UVs.

Swords and bombs and guns can have max, but not with a UV alone.
