How do shields with status resistances work? I have an Owlite Shield ,but I was wondering what does the fire and shock resistance do for me because I know shields themselves can't catch fire or shock.

Well,

Sometimes in the clockworks, monsters or certain traps will inflict statuses such as Fire, Poison, Shock, Poison, etc.
Resistance against these makes them... well, less hurtful.
You can try out some of them on yourself through traps in that training area which name I've forgot. If you want to know even more about statuses, do remember there's a wiki for that! :]

On the Shield Statistics bit.

"Shields can also have resistance to one or more damage types or status effects; this reduces the amount of health the shield loses when blocking that type of damage or status."

So basically, your Owlite can loses less health from Shock and Burn status attacks, than a shield without those resistances. Just an extra defense from basically.
