When do the "ambient" and "action" tracks play?

I was taking a look at SK's music folder and found the following .oggs
sky_islands_day_action
sky_islands_day_ambient
castle_action
castle_ambient
citadel_action
citadel_ambient
city_action
city_ambient
clockwork_action
clockwork_ambient
clockwork_ambient_2

I know where these play, but I don't know when or in which part of the levels. Can anyone help, please? :3

They swap at random, right

They swap at random, right after one song ends, it has a chance to either play again or go to the other version. Like for example, castle_action when it's done playing can either play again or go to the ambient theme.

Ambient means normal

Ambient means normal background music, Action is when there are monsters nearby.
