Are Darkfang Menders blind(ed)?

Apologies if this has been brought up or mentioned in another topic, but I noticed something while wandering the (Tortodrone-lacking) Emerald Axis.
I witnessed one of those gremlin healers do something I have rarely seen them do, which is attack with his cane. But his attack wasn't aimed anywhere near me - instead, he took three consecutive swipes at empty space. This led me to assume that one of a handful of cases might be true:
- Darkfang Menders are blind
- Darkfang Menders can't see well from underneath their hoods
- Darkfang Menders are really bad at attacking
Has anyone else noticed behavior like this? As it is, I'm not sure under what circumstances the menders attack, but from what I can tell, they don't do it nearly as frequently as any of the other monsters (that is, they don't take a swipe at any chance they get). I'm thinking it is a more common behavior when they are cornered - or perhaps I am giving their AI too much credit for being able to recognize such parameters.

Ah, I see. Well, all the same, it was rather amusing at the time.

just realised my post seemed a bit cold, personally i prefer ideas :)

Ha, no, it's okay. It didn't seem that way to me. I remember back when they did give the occasional whack, but I figured that had been nerfed since.

I think they still glitch and start whacking several times in a row when they are really low on health.

Now that's some sick grammar, broski... o_o
No but really, would've been cool if they were blind though. I mean, how often do you spot a blind goblin in World of Warcraft u: ?
Menders used to be able to hit you with that staff, now they cannot. This is just a rare glitch.
