Well seeing as most of the time now, people are diving into the clockworks to face Vanaduke, take on the Shadow Lairs, earning crowns, etc.
Has anyone actually wondered how far they could get into the clockworks, starting depth 0, and see how far they got?

Well seeing as I'm one of those people who wonder, why not make a little Competition out of it?

It could go like this:
There would be 25 contestants, no more.
Any tier group, though it is obvious to have a even chance of winning, Tier 3 would be the way to go.
I will pick the gate, most probably be a Roarmulus Twins - Jelly King gate to make things even.
The first 25 to post their INTEREST of taking part, they will be the contestants.
The first comment, I will do their trial first, then the 2nd, 3rd, etc.
Do not beg for a second chance, moan that it was unfair or insult any of the people involved because you may not "do well", you will be disqualified.
You will be added by one of the 'Judges' as a friend, so they can record your results.
They will merely keep track of your progress into the Clockworks.

RULES
NO being immature, moaning about 'unfairness' as stated above; you would be disqualified.
NO reviving, this is VITAL to make sure the results are even, you MUST tell the judge 'recording' you if you die!!!!
NO bribing the judge recording you, if this happens, the judge is to inform me IMMEDIATELY; the 'briber' will become disqualified
Danger rooms are a MUST in tier 1+2. (I'll let it pass in tier 3, don't want to give you all a TERRIBLE time)
Only change your loadout at TERMINALS. You are NOT allowed to change them at arsenal stations in-between!

Requirements
No health trinkets to make sure the tournament and results are fair.
Vitapods are allowed, no restrictions there.
Start at DEPTH 0.

Involvement
25 Contestants, the first 25 posts on this thread STATING INTEREST will become the competitors.
5 Extra judges, 5 people I can trust to record the results clearly, accurately and truthfully. ( I will be the 6th Judge)

Other:
The 'Judges' are allowed to take part in the tournament, but again, needed to record TRUTHFULLY.

Rewards
The rewards will be CE prizes!
They will be as follows:
1st Place (Person who got furthest without dying)
2nd Place. (Person who got second furthest without dying)
3rd Place. (Person who got third furthest without dying)
Best Sport. (Person showing great respect, competitiveness and sportsmanship)
At the beginning of the tournament, we will all meet in the Haven 51 garden to announce the competitors (If you can make it)
At the end of the tournament, we will meet in the Haven 51 Garden to discuss the prizes, announce the winners :) (If you can make it)

a timed trial to get to the core, or just how long you can go without dying? I might be interested, but I would like to hear that clarification before committing. Also, would this be solo or in a group?

Choice? - I will pick the gate, you will pick whatever path you go in each stratum, just don't avoid fighting, otherwise..it makes the whole thing unfair!

I might like to participate, but there are several things that need to be clarified. Will people need to do the same levels within a depth, or will it be acceptable to do different levels within a depth? Will arenas be required? How is this going to be determined? All of the trials will have to be within the same week, so the gate doesn't disappear I'd love to see a few more things clarified before I commit. Also, going to pass this along to my guild, there are some higher level people who might be interested.

Same levels in a depth? - Well I cannot decide what path the elevator can take you?!?
Arenas? - Good question; If you come across an arena you must see it through all 3 stages!
Same week? - That's a problem I'm still looking at; it depends when the tournament starts, most preferably on a weekend, but we'll see!

So when all the contestants run from 0 to the Core without dying how do you declare a winner?

I am certain that I can run from 0 to the core without dying, especially solo. If I can do it then many, many others can as well.

My time is far too limited to entertain your contest although I commend your willingness to conduct it.

Well, the Judge recording it will tell me at what depth they died; if the contestant is sensible, he will tell the judge accordingly!
The winner will be the person who's record's who that they got furthest.

That's a good idea - Updating...I'll give it go maybe...
And energy? - Judging buy how many crowns you have to begin with and how many crowns you will GAIN, buying energy on the market will be a breeze!
Bear in mind that we (The Judges) cannot be blamed for energy loss whatsoever, that your taking part in this competition includes some loss in your energy savings.

What do you do when the multiple trips are made WITHOUT dying?

Your answer presumes all contestants die at some depth. I am asserting that most competent players can make a 0-Core run WITHOUT dying a single time.

Unfortunately, you can't tell how far a person goes in arenas, or if they do danger rooms. Also, even with those conditions, I'm sure a lot of people can solo to the core without dying easily.

But, if you're still doing it, I'd like to participate.

If it happens within the next few days I'd like to participate for sure. After next Wednesday I won't have consistent access to the interwebs, so if it's after that feel free to give my spot to someone else.

With regards to arenas/danger rooms, you could have a judge accompany each competitor, die as soon as they can, then just watch the competitor, repeating at every new level.

just a suggestion

I like the idea of enforcing the danger rooms, but how about adding this twist instead; add several prizes for whoever comes out with the most crowns or CE, that way you can give incentive to participate in the danger rooms, arenas, etc. yet giving them the option to pass in case of a low health situation.

A bunch of people have said that they could easily solo from 0 to the Core; I'm not sure that I could, but it would add an additional layer of difficulty. On the other hand, it would require that the judges all pay for a bunch of levels...

@jamoo I suggest having one judge per contestant. This way, the judge can die and be a spectator and watch the person's every move to make sure they don't cheat. Also, I think that players should have at least 400 energy in order to participate, so they can go to depth 29 and with danger rooms.
PS: I'm not joining, cause im a tier 2 nub. Just giving ideas. :) Awesome competition though.

Some solutions perhaps?

Any judges with elevator passes could go on some of the runs, hey, free crowns.
Or anyone that makes it to the core claiming not to have died can have their assigned judge join them, get them to die (Gran faust or fov, otherwise I don't think it's possible, unless they join at the end of depth 28 where there is a trap?) and check their rev cost and as long as they've been monitoring the party number, should be able to decide if they've played fairly or not.

Tiebreaker.

For the tiebreaker, why not make it who takes the most danger rooms?
You should probably make a tiebreaker, if you don't want to end up broke.
You could make it who does it in the least time, who does it with the least trinket slots, weapon slots, etc.
And to add something to the competition..make it one loadout only. All the way.
