Sir-Didymus

In the spirit of Festivus I was going to recognize all knights who have disappointed me in the last year and have a contest to display feats of strength. Then I decided the list of knights would be so long that I could never finish typing it. So instead in an anti-Festivus celebration I will tell a story about a Knight who helped me on my way.

Once upon a time near the steam release there was a young knight named Sir-Didymus. Sir-Didymus had decided that this mist stuff he was given had some value and that he should craft things with it when he wasn’t going to use it. One day the young knight made himself a haze bomb with a CTR-High UV. Since he was still a noob he had no idea of his items worth. He decided the best way to appraise its value was to stand in front of the auction house and ask for a price check on a CTR high haze bomb. To his great joy several well geared players congratulated him on his craft and offered to trade massive amounts of crowns (~10-20K) in exchange for his bomb. One shady looking character in a dread skelly mask told him the bomb he made had good value and should only be sold for a premium price. This knight then invited him into his guild, gave him advice on gear, and helped him on his way through the clockworks. He did what he could to turn Didy into an average player which was an enormous task.

So a big thanks to Shielded for his time and patience.

I have seen several requests for gear for noobs, which do help, but remember sometimes an answer to a question or the time it takes to go on a T1 run with a new player could be just as valuable in the end. Feel free to recognize players who have helped you on your way.

-Didy-

This is is less anti-Festivus

This is is less anti-Festivus and more like a choice to do a Feat of Strength instead of an Airing of Grievances. I love it. :) Happy Festivus!

Another Tale

I had a fairly similar experience. I was a young knight, who couldn't understand why people would ever want any kind of damage but normal, because come on! it was good against everything, and not bad against anything. I trundled on my way, using an ascended calibur for weeks, until when I was jumping from random page to random page on the Wiki and stumbled across the guild page for Impervious. Intrigued by their pictures and the description, I sent a forum post to Swarleysparkles, who promptly responded to me and let me join Impervious. With guidance from the awesome players in Impervious, I have had more fun with Spiral Knights than I ever could have imagined, and have had an absolutely fantastic time with my new guild. Thanks to Swarley, Sciasz, and everyone else in Impervious who have made me into a better player, dragged me along on FSC runs, and in general give me great advice!

Everyone who patiently took

Everyone who patiently took the time to revive me, didn't leave me behind even when the lift/button was 3 steps away, and didn't get angry after my 3rd consecutive death in the same room.
Thanks everyone who allowed me to improve instead of driving me away with my utter fail! I now am decent enough to give the same respect to newbies.
Cheers!

I haven't talked to them lately (or at all since the first run ;c), but Shoguante showed me the ropes in FSC even though it pretty much meant they had to solo everything while dragging my corpse around. I failed epically, but learned a lot.

There's been a ton of people who've made my SK life better (hi Potato) and much more fun. Cheers to this thread, even though I have no clue what Festivus is. xD

Trolls have no mentor. We

Trolls have no mentor. We scammed our mentors and brainwash our apprentices to ragecraft so we can get a 25% profit from their UV sales.

a lot of people have helped

a lot of people have helped me with advice, and even selling me things in SK but I would like to give a respect shout out to Giannii and Rommil who have always been there when I've needed advice and even a favour.

honorable mentions to Pawn, Azraelwing, Kurapika, my guild (wherever they may be), the two guys from Spaartaa who left, Nick - for being awesome, Rhcp for buying my crown =D, and all those lovely AH people who shop on the weekends!

My mentor was originally

My mentor was originally Tierria who isn't well known I'm guessing. But after him I would say Bigfootm has really helped me mature in game and given me the confidence to go on T3 runs. I had the gear, but was never certain of myself. Tierria originally helped me get my first 2* weapon, and all the recipes I needed and I payed him back. I remember spending one weekend on half price weekend doing nothing but snarbo run after snarbo run. He tought me how to buy energy, how to use the AH and how to turn a tidy profit. He was great help.

SHOUT OUT TO: Tierria & Bigfootm!

A lota Thx

dackydava: for putting up with my multiple computer crashes and reboots without kicking me even once!

Manhoe: awesome guild master who brought me along to FSC to let me get moar cr while i'm still in 2~3 star gear :P
(and i only died 2~4 times, which tells how awesome he was at keeping me alive)

Avictus: for helping me and dacky accomplish our first few JK runs (and in record time too!)

a random guy who's name i forgot: thx for the free dusker coat

meekish: for showing me the horrors of t3 with your own body :P
(while i'm still in T2 gear dodging gun puppies and trying to rev you, which failed :P prosdragon had to save us in the end...)

Prosdragon, Narutomaki, Bkka, and to many other guildes: for answering my S.O.S's in times of need and giving me solid advice

many others: for being there along the way to help me learn the ropes

GM's: I always assumed you

GM's: I always assumed you had to trade your soul for the "ban stick"

Oakgear - I am very dissapointed in you feeling the need to ask that question, so if you were not before you are now.

Ehsan and Wodanct, congratulations on never having any help and accomplishing what you have.

(This could still be a place that you could say thank you to the people who took the time to contribute to the wiki if you have ever looked at it)

In my case I had someone who used their time to pass on knowledge and technique not to say that i wouldnt have accepted a sword or armor as a noob.

thank-yous

I benefited greatly from the patience and experience of a number of beta players--the vast majority of which, sadly, are long gone now. Though the names escape me, I remember in particular a player who helped me understand the ins and outs of the in-game economy, and another two who helped me through my first (successful) JK run. To them, my new guildies, and the devs--thanks.

Thank you friends!

I want to say thank you to my entire guild "Gambit". They all helped me along this journey to become a better player. The people I feel have helped me many countless times: Sherbies, Flyingasgardian, Frostyfrog, Senorclean, and my friend (who isn't in my guild) Flamebolt for helping me get to Ash Tail, in a BIG WAY.

lol...

My mentor story is a bit... Twisted. A guy I will hold anonymous (If I remember right, he was a full 5* officer) invited me to the guild "Knights Of Equestria". One day (Back when I was just 3*) I joined him and his friend at Moorcraft to go on a jelly run... Which they criticized me heavily for. They kept telling me that I need to be at least 4* in order to go with them, which... Kinda made me want to go more, just to prove them wrong. After they whined for 10 minutes they finally said I could go. As we were down there we came across a graveyard, where we all died, but since I was the "Noob" there I was blamed of course, even if I didn't do anything wrong, and lasted a little longer than them. After that we all backed out. If that wasn't bad enough, he announced to the ENTIRE guild that "Ugh, I'm never going on a run with Vain ever again, hes useless!". I really wanted to say something back, but I figured he wasn't worth it, and I left the guild. Hes not the nice mentor that should have gave advice, but the kind of mentor that made me want to get better, if only to prove him wrong. I believe he left somewhere around when I got my first full 5* set, because I haven't seen him since. I didn't join a guild for a long time after that except for my friend's guild, but it died quickly, and I left that too. I eventually met Gwen, who allowed me into the guild "The Risen", which is the guild I'm still in today. I don't think I'll be leaving it anytime soon either, at least in this guild you feel comfortable and know mostly everyone in the guild has your back. :P
