is that without fail the best way to make money (crowns) is by the most monotonous, boring, repetitive possible thing in the game.
In Spiral Knights? Royal Jelly running. It gets old quickly.

theres no grinding compared to other MMOs thats for sure.
there is no standing in the middle of a giant hellspawn spamming f1-12 until everything dies for 6 hours straight to gain 1 level and maybe a piece of equipment etcetc.
Um...you do realize that when you choose to do the "best" anything you limit yourself to one activity. If perhaps you just actually went around to other gates and just enjoyed playing instead of trying to do the same thing over and over again, it wouldn't be grindy... pretty sure the game didn't tell you to:
Play Spiral Knights! Get to tier 2. Beat Jelly King. Repeat!
I have an account where I only spend Mist Energy. I don't buy nor sell CE. You'd be surprised how fun the game is when you limit yourself.
Just don't ask me how long I've /played on THIS account, though :/
I actually really enjoy that you can be very successful in this game if you have a good market sense. Its like a stock market game with the added bonus of being able to invest in demon mining equipment!
I have to agree with the OP, though. The benefits from running Jelly King far outweigh any other things you can run. With the additional crowns and Jelly Tokens you can pretty much buy any mats you would have wanted from other gates.
When the game gives me a choice between having fun and being optimal, there is a problem. If Jelly king was only slightly better than other gates, it wouldn't be so bad, but the difference is pretty stark and there's virtually no variation (unless you wipe to the king).
I'm not sure how you could fix that aside from making it so that the Jelly King boss level is always the last stratum in Tier 2, adding in several varied versions of that level, and then making the Jelly Castle levels appear randomly through T2. That way you could run any gate and get a shot at Jelly King.
Yeah, they say no grinding but there is grinding.
I think it's false advertising, but it's fun anyway.
