Hey everyone, so I was just wondering how the armor and shield damage protection actually works. I've seen people go into the clockworks with either pure sets (for example just dusker or straight skelly) and a mix (skelly-dusker, jelly-cobalt). So, my question is, does it take the highest damage reduction from each piece of armor and have that as your defense (so you would have high shadow and piercing defense with a skelly dusker combo), or does it add up each damage resistance (so, for example, with full dusker you would have more piercing defense than a mix).
Also, if it does add up all the damage resistances, does the extra defense for each type of damage outweigh the benefits of a mixed armor set, or is a melange of defenses the best way to go?
Thanks to anyone who actually read all the way through this, congratulations to those who understood it, and a virtual cookie for those few gods who answer.
Armor questions from a noob
Well, some people combine their armors and sets. But for the full and most best choice I would do, is buy the full sets. Right now, I have the 2 Star Wolver set and the 2 star Skelly Set. I use the Wolver Set for pretty much everything, except the shadow, undead, ghost part depths. I would use the Skelly set for those. It's because the Skelly set has some resistance on shadow attacks, which is pretty much all the undead family's damage attacks. But it seems a little better (Just a WEE bit) to combine armors instead of wasting a little extra crowns for just buying sets. But I do use em as a costume too, like when I use wolver set, I use skelly as costume, but sometimes, I really prefer just using no costume, but I don't like to waste the look and use of the 2 sets I have. But I do use the same weapons. I use the same Brandish, and the Same Crystal Bomb I have. I don't know if it really makes much of a difference to switch your weapons like how I have only those 2 weapons. But really, those are like the only swords and bombs I have, except for the proto sword -_- But set bonuses are actually better than having combined armor...so that's what I recommend and also my opinion. Well I hope this helps! :D
Thanks to everyone who responded :D
Here is you're virtual cookie (nom)
:D!!!! COOKIEZ!? Is your IGN Aemicus? (Most likely...idk why i asked that lol) I would like to add you :D Maybe we can play sometime today. But i need to go soon...in 3 hours! XD Well your welcome :) Hope you have a good idea on what you are going to do now and what gear/equipment/items you will get!
Haha, no, it's Eneal, Aemicus is my even worse knight. I couldn't really call Aemicus my bad knight as they both are pretty bad... 2-3* gear with one 4* weapon. I wouldn't say no to doing a couple jelly King runs, though you might not want to once you see me playing :P
Armour sets do indeed add up. With full Dusker, you'd have high normal and high piercing, whereas with Dusker and Scary Skelly, you'd have high normal, med piercing, and med shadow (high and med are relative here, but you'd have half as much piercing defense in Dusker-Skelly). The bonuses and status protection stacks as well.
As for what's best, it depends on a lot of factors. Pre-aresenal station, a stratum like poison would have many different monster families in it, so a mixed set (Skolver Coat + Divine Veil is very popular) would offer you average protection from everything. Now that we do have the stations, it's very easy to switch to a full set so you'd get the maximum protection in each depth. In T3, the defense doesn't matter as much as your ability to dodge and shield bump--that is, if you don't know how to dodge and shield bump correctly, even if you have maximum protection against a monster, you'd still die in a couple of hits. You have to keep in mind things like bonuses and status defense as well, which is the reason why people wear Vog Cub sets to FSC. None of the monsters there do elemental damage, but people love the ASI bonus and the fire protection on that set.
For a beginner, going for a mixed set can be a good choice since you don't have enough money to specialize in all the defenses, but going for one straight set with a good bonus (Skolver and Vog Cub are very popular for their bonuses) can be beneficial too.
