This is a small thread created after the release of the 3 Rose Regalia sets into the Featured Auctions section of the AH.

You heard me right. Rose Regalia. First-edition Rose Regalia, which not long after being released, shot up to an astounding 400k cr... per piece.
The following thread is for those in the /2 chat to vent/discuss this new update, along with potential future updates, and what they think of them.

This paragraph does not reflect the views of others other than myself, though other players may share the same views: Whoever is running Spiral Knights has become more money/CE-oriented than player-oriented. True, there is a Christmas update coming up, but from what I have heard/seen it is just another update and nothing major and plot-oriented. As for these featured auctions, like Pawn said, they are blindsiding the playerbase. For example, my GM Rubyeclipse has been attempting to sell one of his 1st-edition Rose Regalia sets recently. The re-appearance of the sets has caused quite a stir and, to my knowledge, is sending Ruby into the SK threads to see if there ever was a mention of 'not releasing this Regalia again' in the records. Either way, this has become a bone to pick with the creators of SK.

I have no preconceptions of what I am entitled to in this game, other than enjoyable gametime, and that is what I feel I am losing: the enjoyment. There is no enjoyment for me to see myself bid out by 1 million crowns, nor is there any purpose for me to continue now that I am a "poor" 5* player. I may sound like I am griping, but here is what I think of the Featured Auctions: They make it harder for the lower-classed players to move onward and upward, and have less appeal to the veteran class than was originally expected. And, like my friend who quit due to an earlier update, I may one day log on only for the pleasure of seeing how empty Haven 1 has become.

Just asking a question here.

How did the Featured Auctions hurt the playerbase that bad? I understand many people feel that way, but as I recall, every single thing sold in the Featured Auctions has been aesthetic only. It's not like the FA made it easier for people to get exclusively powerful weapons or something.

Not hating or attacking anyone here, just an ignorant middle-class player asking an honest question.

I kinda laughed, because this

I kinda laughed, because this release doesn't do ANYTHING to the Red, White and Black set sales except give them a possible rise in price value. if they released 6 of each like they did prismatic scarfs, or glow eyes. then I would say this is bad. But other wise this was a decent idea.

well, it does disrupt the market

"Rubyeclipse has been attempting to sell one of his 1st-edition Rose Regalia sets"

I sympathize a bit with people in this situation, who have an item to sell, but see their market massively disrupted by game updates. But people operating at this level of wealth (I mean, in-game wealth) are a very small sector of the player base.

"nor is there any purpose for me to continue now that I am a "poor" 5* player"

I have no sympathy for this viewpoint. Is your only source of enjoyment in this game getting rare costumes? These items aren't even remotely necessary to playing the game well. If playing Spiral Knights is a meal, then Clockworks/PvP is the main course, collecting extraneous 5-star gear is dessert, and collecting rare costumes is the cherry on top of that dessert. Don't you enjoy the actual game play at all?

Hmm.

I quote what Bopp said "I sympathize a bit with people in this situation, who have an item to sell, but see their market massively disrupted by game updates."

@Bopp: You are extremely wrong. The market of this people you sympathise with, has been masssively disrupted not by game updates, but by broken promises made by OOO. I bring up what Nick said before. From this source http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/5957, this is what Nick said: "There are three chapeaus and three tabards in all, so this is your last chance to collect all six!". Last chance boy.

I do see how this affects you

I do see how this affects you guys, but I can't really say how I will side on this issue.

For one I don't, nor ever, owned a Rose Regalia piece. I think that since its on featured auctions, its good for anyone that could afford it, as possibly newer players would not have a chance at the first regalia sets. However they were classics, and a limited edition one at that, so I can see why many players will feel like they somewhat wasted their money/ lied to by OOO.

On my behalf, I don't really want one that bad (Send me a mail if you got a Prismatic scarf though) as I did before.

Then again it is again "Limited edition" as the Auction house works.

So that's my 2 crs

Limited

Look at how TF2 does things. They have some promos that are NEVER sold or drop or craft. Newer promos tend to drop or become purchasable.

It's all the money game. Three Rings needs money like anyone. They get it by doing things like this. Is it wrong? Maby. But does it work? Yes.

It's one set of each. Yes, it sucks that OOO re-released something we thought was exclusive, but it's not like they're putting up 500 of each item up like the newer Rose items. There's a big enough market that one more set won't make a difference. That is, as long as OOO don't continuously put up the items. Three sets per year? Sure, stir up some interest in them and put up a crown sink.

I can't afford any of this stuff either, but I don't feel that it's lessened my enjoyment of the game. It's all cosmetic, and my goal in this game isn't to sport the rarest accessories.

okay, Ivorise

Ivorise wrote, "@Bopp: You are extremely wrong. The market of this people you sympathise with, has been masssively disrupted not by game updates, but by broken promises made by OOO."

Okay, okay. There is no reason to jump on me. I'm sympathizing with these people, right? I agree that the original regalia announcement wording can be taken as a "promise". This promise was broken in an update to the game, right? That's all I was saying. We don't really have an argument here.

looking at this from far below

I am a completely novice player. I am in the middle of t2, and have absolutely no hope of ever seeing one of these sets in my inventory. On the one hand, the key phrase they used was "Limited edition" Not "Singular Special Edition." From a semantics point of view, 000 is at no fault here, as they only released it in a limited quantity, both times it was released. A single extra set of each does not change the fact that they are among the rarest of the rare items in the entire game.

On the other hand, If 000 decides to continue these "limited" releases at regular intervals, then not only will the inherent value of the items diminish, but the sentimental value of the items to the original collectors as well.
