depends.
DA is much more popular due to the elemental/normal damage combination, plus the 3 sword beams from the charge (gran faus only shoots one.), but the curse status is lethal (ever cursed the JK when its crownless? just wait it to start spinning and it will die in seconds.), but the problem is the chance of being cursed, also, elemntal damage is considered more useful than shadow damage. GF is lethal, but DA is way more popular. Can't decide wich one to pick? if you manage to get both, its the best option. TL;DR: the result in gran faust and divine avenger is a TIE.

Jesus Christ why does everyone insist on comparing DA to GF and Argy to Senty? They're 2 different damage types.
I like DA better only because I prefer Acheron when fighting Gremlins and Jellies. Also the charge attack is way more usable.

Tie game.
Get both.
Eventually, anyway. Which one you get first depends on your current tier and how fast you'll be getting them.
IF you plan to farm the Royal Jelly for a while, even after getting sealed sword, then get Faust first - it will make RJ a joke to kill.
IF on the other hand you're already T3 and you want to take a break from RJ farming for a while to do Duke or something, go with Avenger first - this is better for more general uses.

I know this forum's search feature is criminally bad, but give it a shot anyway. There are soooooo many of these threads & as already pointed out that is not a proper question.
You need to ask yourself the question, "Do I prefer medium speed, 3 swing combo swords? or do I prefer slow, 2 swing combo swords?"
If you like 3 swingers get an Elemental Brandish and a Shadow Brandish. If you like 2 swingers get a DA & a GF.
If your question is which to upgrade first, then that just depends on what you want to run first.
If JK -> GF or Shadow Brandish (Acheron) ***note you really don't need 5* gear to do JK runs ***
If FSC -> DA or Elemental Brandish (Glacius, Voltedge, or Combuster)

Based on his tone, I think that the original poster was just baiting us, hoping to inspire a big argument about two of the best-loved swords in the game. In case the question was sincere, it has already been given a more thorough answer than it deserved.

Ok, I'll fess up.
This thread was mostly just baiting, but not to see a huge argument. I really wanted you see how you guys addressed a very obvious troll on such a commonly debated topic.
And on the other hand, I was still being somewhat serious about this. I wanted some more advice than just "get whatever you prefer, or use something else entirely." So thanks to the few people that had legitimate advice. I'll stop baiting.

stop using the overused swords :D brandishes are 10000000000000000x better in my opinion :P
also, @ trying about the apples and oranges, they are pretty comparable <.<. one is usually orangeg, thte other usually red/green/yellow. one is a citrus fruit the other is a basic(or whatever its called) fruit. in apples, most vitamins in the skin, while as the oranges have most of their vitamins in their pulp

Since when did proverbs make any sense to being with?
i.e. raining cats and dogs
they are two entirely different damage types so it is like comparing apples to oranges.
