barbarous thorn blade is my fav sword
barbarous thorn blade fan thread
Are you going to make a thread for every weapon you get?
you think its a proto sword, but nooooooooo its a BOLTED BLADE
extra 4 dmg bi0tch >.>
ther only thing you need to know about btb is that YOU need a normal or elemetal swords to go with the btb because of the jellies and you know
Nice combo, great damage, the charge attack looks cool but leaves much to be desired in the way of dealing damage.
Kickthebucket, you find that your Levi is better against fiends than a BTB/FF? Does your Levi have max CTR, and you charge it all the time? Or do you just need to try a piercing sword over 3-star?
With ASI Medium on Stratum 6, BTB/FF does 531 damage per second against a fiend, whereas Leviathan Blade does only 376 damage per second (see here). Also the BTB/FF has a faster and wider first swing. I don't see a contest here.
@Bopp
first of all i haven't upgraded it past 3* just because i realy REALY don't like the combo (it's a 1 target thing wich imo makes it kind of useless against wolvers)
second i use heavy swords 95% of the time (only time i actualy use my levi is in T3 fiend lvls because it just doesn't work that well hitting them with a divine avenger)
i allmost never use the charge (hell i hardly use my levi after getting the 2 sealed swords)
so all in all i don't like the piercing swords :) (and the only thing that's diffrent is the charge and the small status effects) if there would be a heavy piercing sword i would never bother with medium/fast swords again haha. (just to deal with fiends faster)
I actualy did a race with a friend in a T3 wolver den, he used his snarby sword and i used my gran faust + 2 asi trinkets (or you can use uv's it's the same haha) other then that we both had the same armor and shield. the thing is i won in every department :)
i didn't get hit, i cleared the dangerroom like it was nothing (taking down half a wolverpack with just 1 combo) i even beat him cutting down ALL the bushes haha :D so this answers the beast part
now the fiend part:
greavers... hit once and they won't finish their attack (with the levi 2 or 3 hits and they go down) easy stuff i can even do with a gran faust
trojans? again i can even take them down with a gran faust so no real boost needed in damage
silkwings haha does it even count?
and then we have the worst enemy in the game... devilites. why if you manage to finish the combo in T3 and not get hit well done (and you took out 1 of the what 10 jumping all over the place?) here's where i use my levi... i just take my time dodging their spam (from a good distance) taking down the overtimers first (keeping an eye out for pitbosses turning them into overtimers) so here i only need to shield cancel a bit (so i'm sure NOT to get hit) or if it's safe combo his ass and he'll die anyway.
this is how I do it ;-) i'm not saying everybody should drop their plans to make a piercing sword but this shows piercing damage isn't realy needed (or any special damage) and yes i could also swap my SS line for a troika line but again that sword is waste of CE (it needs a buff)
so we come to this, i don't think my levi is "better" i think it's "easier" for me to control devilites and gran faust just beats it into the ground when it comes to wolver mobs :D
Kickthebucket, it seems that you have a good way to fight fiends and beasts. So that's great. However, just in case any impressionable youngsters are watching this conversation, let me respond to some points:
You don't like the piercing sword combo. Usually, people say this because they're simply not comfortable with a sword yet. I strongly feel that anyone can get accustomed to any kind of sword. (Of course, whether it's worth your time is up to you.)
You say that the piercing sword combo hits only one monster. But there is actually some kind of area-effect on these things. If you tear into a crowd of wolvers, then a bunch of them get hit, not just one. Your comments about interrupting attacks apply just as well to the piercing swords as to Leviathan or GF. A piercing sword's first long, wide swing (which often hits multiple monsters) interrupts attacks and knocks back a bit.
Nevertheless, against a crowd of beasts, your Gran Faust is probably able to hit multiple monsters more often than a piercing sword can. But each hit from a piercing sword does significantly more damage (531 DPS vs. 308 DPS, on each monster hit). Maybe you are more skilled than your friend, in fighting wolvers? And you may think that your Levi does a lot of damage against fiends, but a piercing sword does far more (531 vs. 376 DPS per monster hit), and actually has a longer, wider swing.
I used to use DA and GF exclusively. One day I wondered to myself, "Maybe I should try piercing." So I got a piercing sword. It was a revelation. Even though I wasn't accustomed to the combo yet, I was far better against beasts than with my GF, and far better against fiends than with my DA. This test is more convincing to me, than the you-vs.-your-friend test is.
Based on your recommendation, I'm going to give GF-vs.-wolvers another try. Perhaps you will give piercing swords another try someday. Cheers.
Against wolvers, BTB and Flourish are better imo. The reason being, you rarely use the full combo or charge attack- just spam the first hit while shield canceling. The first hit on a pierce sword has incredible coverage and very good range, which means in a crowd of wolvers, you perform a strike that hits 3-5 wolvers for a ton of damage, step back a bit and repeat. All within about half a second. The combo is also usable on Alphas; the high damage knockdown will interrupt their attack, and it executes very rapidly (though it does leave you vulnerable, so it is a poor choice in a crowd). I have tried GF against wolvers before, and while it is usable, it takes much longer to clear a pack of wolvers than when wielding a BTB. I love the heavy sword lines, but they are just not suited for these sorts of tasks.
Against greavers, sword choice is less important than timing as they are made of tissue paper and will go down with a few hits from anything. However, it is easier to do the timing with a fast sword like the BTB or Flourish, which will let you recover from a missed first-strike if you shield cancel. The same is true of Trojans- it's simply a matter of dodging and getting in hits on the right timing.
For Devilites the main problem is strategy. I feel that the extra damage definitely gives it an edge over the Levi, but it still doesn't mean you can Leeroy your way into a crowd and expect to survive. As you describe, it's about dodging and picking your targets, which can be done with any moderately fast sword.
As a striker principally, faster attack and more damage allows you to chew down a guardian's shield rather fast, also the combo is pretty useful for dispatching other strikers, also, carry a heavy sword with you, its only useful when playing as a striker, especially for the extra attack speed and damage. Its kinda useful for guardians too, since its fast and deals a good damage.
nope don't like the piercing swords combo... i do like the look but i stopped crafting on 3* (i just use my GF against wolvers and levi against fiends, works even better then the BTB)
