For all those energy haters out there, here is an idea that could make everyone happy.

everyone knows the complaints, and everyone is tired of hearing the same old new guy saying "HEY, EVERYONE, LOOK WHAT I JUST DISCOVERED!!!!" as if the rest of us didn't notice.

now, the big problem with the energy system, is that it pushes players to play other games when they are out of energy, many of them often giving up on continuing a "free" account. now, if the game was more "multiplayer friendly", it wouldn't hinder your play time, and here is the simple solution.

have it so that if you don't pay for the floor your on, you don't keep anything, and all the spoils and crowns, etc. go to the players who "paid the 10 energy" at the elevator. I've seen a couple other posts like this, but they always "want something".

if you removed rewards for people out of energy, the incentive to grind is gone, but the fun isn't. they can still enjoy your game and play with their friends, rather than sitting in the haven twirling their thumbs.

this could even cause a player to fork out a little bit of cash for ce when they are doing runs with their friends if they keep finding good spoils, and decide to purchase some ce so it so they can maybe make a better weapon before their ce runs dry again for the day. that said, if you do this as part of an update, I'd recommend increasing the amount of rare drops and finds, like being able to find weapons and armor of up to a certain star level based on the tier your playing with, and danger rooms yielding much larger pay outs.

you could even justify this new system by saying, the 10 energy you were using allowed you to send your spoils to a storage thing at the elevator, and so if you didn't take that 10 energy with you, you can't keep anything from that depth. simple, the game is still fun, everyone wins right?

thoughts, corrections, feelings?

One problem

The CE pays for the cost of the servers (at least in part).
You will put the same load on the servers regardless of if you are playing and collecting drops, or not collecting them.

If they do this, they will likely need to counter the increased costs by making other things more expensive, such as making it cost 20 energy for the elevator, or even more for crafting.

Also, would you be able to choose what levels you paid for, i.e. even if you did have energy, could you choose to not pay. I don't want to use up my CE that I am saving up for crafting, to go play levels. So if I am still forced to pay for the elevator if I can afford it, I won't be playing any more than with the current system. If the energy cost go up to compensate, then I will likely play even less.

However, if you can choose to pay, then it can be exploited, people will go through the first stratum of a tier without paying, and go through other small paying levels without paying, and save the energy for big payouts like arenas. Which personally, I think would be awesome if it was just for me, but overall, it will just lower the value of crowns and serve to be pointless. Those who go and play like this, will ruin it for those who play normally and pay for each level.

Irony

"everyone is tired of hearing the same old new guy saying "HEY, EVERYONE, LOOK WHAT I JUST DISCOVERED!!!!" as if the rest of us didn't notice."

Congratulations, you are now that new guy.

This has been suggested several times before. It's easily exploitable (levels give substantially different payouts), and I've yet to see a convincing argument that this would be positive or neutral from the perspective of the publisher making money.

Antistone's right; apart from

Antistone's right; apart from anything else, the difference in level payouts really kills this. Candlestick Keep, for example, tends to be relatively poor for crowns; so, you run it to get it out the way, don't pay energy, and carry on - saving yourself the elevator fee, no less.

This becomes a real problem in the long term. People who, for example, have the gear to take on Vanaduke, could do an entire T1-2 run for free, then start paying at T3, bypassing the EN and Cr costs normally associated with reaching that depth. With their 100% free T3 pass sorted they could then just revert to traditional grindy behaviour, loading up on Almiran Seals and the fat sacks of currency from FSC, for a significantly reduced overall cost.

And yeah, them servers don't run on good intentions - it's money keeps those things firing. What do Three Rings want with people huffing their bandwidth without the incentive to pay?

(I like the game, I like playing it, and yeah, I've run dungeons with paid-for cash-money CE before; but I like the mist system. I've got a rather unfortunate combination of poor impulse control, an addictive personality, and loads of stuff I need to get done other than playing games (I work regular part-time hours on top of freelance illustration commissions, have a girlfriend, like to go outside now and again &c), so having a natural cutoff works really well for me. I'm aware this does not go for everyone, but come on, can you really not find something else to do for the other 23 hours in a day after your ME runs out?)

well, you could also have it

well, you could also have it so if you don't pay for the first floor, you go the whole rest of the way for free. in addition, should you stop paying for your floors, you can't choose to start paying for anymore until you have left the clockworks. that way, people can't just "pick and choose" which depths they want, and will not be able to abuse boss rewards like you said.

I just know that a lot of people would just like to play the game care free with their friends, and not feel restricted on their time. It would allow guildmates to play together despite not having energy, and it would be purely fun.

you could even have a whole seperate kind of clockwork for this, one that has no rewards, and so it has no elevator fees. that would prevent the "pay'd for servers" from getting crowded by unpaying players, but ya, they'd have to pay for the server somehow, so I guess they'd have to hope that this new thing retains more players than they have been, thus increasing their number of potential consumers. well, it's a win/win for us, and they'd still make money. the only question is would it be hard to run an extra server for dungeons like this with the amount of revenue they currently make.

Well...

Then I could just use my mist to craft for more profitable stuff, then go there for all the lulz I'll ever need.

Win/win. But makes it too easy for me actually. OOO doesn't want it too easy, or I'll stop playing due to finishing quickly, then getting bored.

@theozai

Thought about that too, but here's your loophole
1 guy goes for free to a terminal or town, invites friends, he leaves, friends make a new instance (go solo) guy rejoins, they pay CE at the larger payout area.
