There was a topic, some time ago, where someone created a mastery of SpiralSpy and bolted together a bunch of animations and stuff to create a chaingun. It was like a Callahan and something else held below a Knight's waist, left hand holding the grip - or appering to, because he used the shield stance - and the right hand on the back of the gun. He made frames of it sitting there, then ones of it firing - empty shells beside it, grip moved backwards, Callahan part aiming slightly up like recoil, a flash in front of the gun - and melded them together to make a very convincing chaingun firing animation.

All in all, it was awesome.

I want that thing in-game. NOW. Of course, probably not gonna happen, so I've decided to make something of a toned down version.

Presenting... the Bolthail series of guns.

Bolthail
0.9 bars normal
Maximum speed
A mammoth weapon forged by the brainstorming of the most creative minds of the Spiral Order, the finest weaponsmiths, and the dreams of gunslingers everywhere. It has been known to cut down wave after wave of just about everything.
2*

Basically, a gun that trades damage for mammoth speed. Basically, you must stand still to fire. Trying to attack will do something similar to what bombs do when you do that; aka nothing. You must hold the attack key. Then the gun will begin firing - at a rate of about 4 shots per second. You can fire for 6 seconds before the gun "overheats" and stops firing. Once it overheats, it cannot begin firing again for 2.5 seconds. After firing for around 30 seconds, you must reload. Sort of. You open some part of the gun and put in an (like in all guns) invisible clip, or a chain in this case.

As for the look, it'd be a bulky weapon held below the waist, with one handle at the front, one near the back. It'd be greyish with several small buttons between the two handles.

In case you were wondering, with this one, it'd do about 3.6 bars of Normal damage per second. If you fire until overheating, that's 21.6 bars normal. Unloading an entire chain into something would be 108 bars of Normal.

Moving on to higher #-star versions now.

Volthail
1.3 bars elemental
Maximum speed
Moderate chance of causing Minor Shock
An electrified Bolthail that can fire out bullets that hit targets with force like lightning.
3*

Firehail
1.3 bars elemental
Maximum speed
Moderate chance of causing Minor Fire
A Bolthail modified with an unstable firing chamber that practically lights its ammunition on fire.
3*

Chillhail
1.3 bars elemental
Maximum speed
Moderate chance of causing Minor Freeze
A Bolthail with a frosty barrel that cools its shots to subzero temperatures.
3*

Blasthail
1.1 bars piercing, 1.1 bars normal
Maximum speed
Moderate chance of causing Minor Stun
This Bolthail has been modified to hold bigger bullets that are known to knock foes unconscious.
3*

Heavy Bolthail
1.5 bars normal
Maximum speed
An upgraded Bolthail. No tweaks. No additional cores. No different ammo. Nothing. Oh, except it has faster and stronger bullets.
3*

Four status upgrades, (the Stun one dealing split piercing-normal and the other dealing pure elemental) and one raw upgrade that just does additional damage with slightly faster-moving shots. Same basic strategies. Still overheats. However, the Heavy Bolthail overheats every 7 seconds as opposed to 6, like the others.

EDIT: Changed status -Hail damage types.

More :PLightning Rotater2

More :P

Lightning Rotater
2 bars elemental
Maximum speed
Moderate chance of causing Minor Shock
A chaingun that practically harnesses the essence of a stormcloud.
4*

Flame Rotater
2 bars elemental
Maximum speed
Moderate chance of causing Minor Fire
A heavily modified flamethrower that uses it's fire core to set the bullets alight.
4*

Ice Rotater
2 bars elemental
Maximum speed
Moderate chance of causing Minor Freeze
The only thing cold than this weapon is its icy bullets.
4*

Knockdown Rotater
1.8 bars piercing, 1.8 bars normal
Maximum speed
Moderate chance of causing Minor Stun
A powerful gun that can throw targets into walls.
4*

Megabolt Rotater
2.4 bars normal
Maximum speed
They used to say that the Megabolt would exist when Gun Puppies could move. Thanks to this gun, Gun Puppies CAN move!* [* Does not actually move Gun Puppies around.]
4*

Upgraded versions of the others. The status versions overheat after 7.2 seconds of continuous firing, the Megabolt Rotater takes 8.1 seconds.

Chain Demolisher
3.1 bars normal
Maximum speed
Slight chance of causing Strong Sleep
A gun thought to be out of reach of reality until the Spiral Treasury granted every weaponsmith on Cradle one million crowns each to forge it. Their motivation increased dramatically.
5*

This is the only 5-star Bolthail line gun. It is an upgrade of the Megabolt Rotater. It would also be the only weapon (currently) to cause the Sleep status. It overheats after 9.5 seconds of continuous firing. The damage output of this monster is 12.4 bars per second, or 117.8 before overheating, compared to 108 for a chain from the basic Bolthail. A chain from THIS thing... 372 bars Normal. Anything that gets in front of this monstrosity will be TORN LIMB FROM LIMB until it is IN PIECES ON THE FLOOR. :P

EDIT: Edited status Rotater damage types.

^if you stop to shoot...

interesting change in gameplay

Catalyzer gave us a gun that requires charging again and again, and it changed how we think a weapon should be used.

Your suggestion will do the same, +1 from me!

@Gospel: Thanks! It would

@Gospel: Thanks! It would change gameplay, I guess. I never really thought about it. Unlike every other gun, you MUST charge to fire. It takes a second, but once you get started, well... nothing can stop you now. Especially when you have the Chain Demolisher.

EDIT: Also, unlike other guns, you'd do well being boxed in a corner. Just sit there, fire and cut down everything. If you're in the middle of a room, it's sort of like doing that with a gun from the Autogun line... except you can turn, but it takes a while and leaves you open for attack from behind, etc, etc. Autoguns wouldn't do well in a corner like a Bolthail/-hail/Rotater/Demolisher would, because they only have a limited range. Honestly, those are made more for ambushing and using only when you are in the perfect situation. This is for those times when:
"You're in the third stage of an arena. You're doing well, but your teammates and you are low on health, but you've nearly made it. You kill the last enemy of the wave, then suddenly that terrible nightmare that happens in the last part of most arenas happens: about 20 Mecha Knights and 4 Menders spawn, with a sprinkle of Retrodes. Your instincts say 'RUN' and 'SPAM ASH OF AGNI'. But you are trapped in a corner and your AoA can't be charged. You try to shield but your not-so-protective bubble is broken in moments. Enemies close in on all sides. Retrodes charge their lasers. Mecha Knights ready their swords. They strike and-"
Normally, the end of this scenario would be "-you die," but this time you have a Bolthail line gun. So let's continue, shall we?
"-explode before they can hit you, because you've just torn out your Bolthail and are whipping their metal hides. You tear apart the Retrodes, a few Mecha Knights and a Mender. The Gremlins try to mend, but you yell, "MEND THIS!*" and send them flying into a wall. You revive your teammates and finish off what's left. The gate drops and you honorably walk forward to collect your rightful loot."
* My personal catchline :P
There's many more scenarios these guns could be used for, but this is the obvious one.

The question just came to me

The question just came to me as to how a player would hold it. Well, onbviously not in one hand, that'd be stupid. Not with two hands either, because that'd mess up the shield. Maybe it could be held on the player's shoulder? I saw a gun in Star Wars: Battlefront 2 held in one hand, with it on the player's shoulder. It could work.

Who sent all these babies to fight me.

I will knock you all out with my gun. Literally.

I'd like this gun. I'd certainly make a 5-Star.

Misunderstand

What I meant by that was "I'd would, without a doubt, make the 5 star version of this weapon."

I guess I should have replaced "a" with "the".

So it's basically a beam/laser gun?

@ThunderTheBrightYeah,

@ThunderTheBright

Yeah, necrobump. Two-year necrobump.

@Hexzyle

It'd fire bullets like a normal gun, I guess. The OP specifies it fires "at a rate of about 4 shots per second."

I want a Halo on my Cobalt Helm.

A constant stream of damage in a line is basically a beam gun, (no penetration) regardless of what it actually looks like.
I don't mind the concept, it would be nice to get a few weapons that don't really fall into their own class, like a shotgun, flamethrower, whip, lance, thrown bomb. But they have to be done right, otherwise they'll be really stupid.

I don't really have much of a problem with people necroing their own threads, as long as it's done in good taste. What the main problem with necroing is when people try to answer a question that someone as asked 2 years ago, bring up a thread that has next to zero information in the OP (pretty much just a "lookatmeguis"/"lookatthisguis", the former being a GD thread, the latter being a suggestion) or bring back a thread that contains a flamewar or a considerable amount negative feedback.

That's true, I suppose. It

That's true, I suppose. It wouldn't visually look like a beam gun but it could be classed as one theoretically.
