Steam's servers (which are down for maintenance) only effect logging into SK through Steam. It shouldn't cause any problems if you can make it past the login.
OOO's servers =/= Steam servers
Too much maintenance steam!
Steam needs to learn that people like playing games like Spiral Knights, and when they are constantly in maintenance, people cant play games like Spiral Knights. Well at least via steam. I don't feel like making a new account so I'm going to have to wait...
@Katmint
Yeah I know that. Problem is we can't make it past the login.
Also Steam is still down and i still hate it.
if they said it was down for maintenance i be okay but it says it can't authenticate game which makes me think they messed the game up for steam. >.< i wanna play game.
Yeah whenever they do maintenace for something completely unrelated, they break their SK link.
The thing is, its a steam ACCOUNT. The account is bound to your steam one. Even manually inputting the steam ID number doesn't work. It'd work on the Steam version of SK to log in normally, (but not the normal sk, mind that) but it won't work with this problem either.
Here's why you can't log in to SK when steam is unavaiable, in easy to understand language:
Think of the log in screen as the entrance to a club. Guarding that entrance is the most bad-ass bouncer ever.
If you have a non-steam account you simply go up to him and show him your ID and he lets you in.
If you have a steam account you are going up to him and saying "I dont have my ID with me, but you can call your boss and he will tell you i can come in."
Under normal circumstances he would call up his boss and his boss would say "yeah, olivemenace, i know that guy! let him in!". But when steam is down it's like his boss doesnt answer the phone. Without permission to enter, you are stuck outside.
Now, hopefully i made that easier to understand for someone because after rereading it I feel like that actually makes things sound a lot more complicated than they already are.
After the last big steam outage, I learned of a way to log in through "Facebook". however, you dont need to use facebook.
Just be logged in with your steam account on the SK forums (here) and click the log in through Facebook button. It will direct you here, and log in to your Steam account that way.
honestly, I find using this method better then steam, even when its up. I seem to get less lag when i dont use Steam : /
I was tempted to install Steam just so that I can access Steam Trade, but I'm kind of glad I didn't. Steam problems sure do crop up a lot. ;c
I was at the core, and as I've stepped on the elevator, disconnected! If this happened a few minutes before... >_<
