I already have a plate shield with low fire (and the recipe to upgrade it learned), but since i plan to get a vog set (maybe a vog-skolver mix), having at least 1 item that gives me extra damage would be useful (especially since i don't have a good CE income), so.. wich one do i use? plate or bristling?
is the bristling buckler's line really useful?

The damage bonus is great for swords, but if you find yourself very shield-dependant, you'll want something stronger such as plate.
it's matter of skill and playstyle.

The buckler line is special
The buckler line is special in that it provides an offensive bonus on a shield. Generally offense is more important than defense in this game, so it's hard to argue that BTS isn't an amazing choice for a shield even in strata that don't deal piercing damage.
In short, use bristling -> BTS unless you have a specific need for a different shield.

The bonus won't protect you
The bonus won't protect you if monster keep hitting your shield and break it-and it breaks easily againts anything that's not pierce.
Plate is a better all-around shield with high push back(ya, at first only normal but what doesnt do normal).
As I said, it's a matter of skill and styles.

I actually think that defense is more important than offense in this game, you can always hit them later, but only if you're alive.

And at the same time you want to kill the important enemies as soon as possible. Once you're overwhelmed, no amount of defense will help. Both defense and offense are more or less equally important, it depends on the playstyle and the situation.
