Anyone have any thoughts on this? Both are piercing bombs but one is radial and the other is projectile...
Which one is better and how?
thanks a bunch!
Dark Briar Barrage vs Radiant Sun Shards
I largely prefer DBB over RSS, but both have some uses. As for why i prefer DBB :
- goes up to 5*. I prefer shiny 5* weapons
- pure damage, meaning more damage
- unlimited amount of damage (if you get 10 wolvers in the area, all 10 are going to get hit, it's not the case with RSS)
- doesn't trigger dodge
- reliable knockdown
- easier to set up
- it's a friggin snarby barking!
But RSS have some use :
- huge single target damage if you can make an enemy step on it when it triggers
- snipping puppies
- perhaps some more that a RSS user will identify better (I used it twice, now it's collecting dust)
RSS can be considered the bomber's go-to damage bomb for all-around use, since multiple shards can connect, fastest bomb deployment, long range for some sniping, and it does enough of both special damage-types to be an AP/Sentenza that comparatively actually "works." Also causes flinching/knockdown, so it has a pretty good repertoire of ability.
DBB is great for mobs and chaining them in a knockdown loop, and is the mono-piercing radius bomb, etc. Overall, just as excellent in its use.

If you're a dedicated bomber, I'd recommend adding RSS to your arsenal.
If you're looking for support or feel like dealing with crowds well, go with DBB.
Thanks so much guys!! I really like the speed of the RSS but im not sure if i will be able to use it efficiently...
So i think for now, I'll go with the DBB and then get the RSS later when im more adapt at bombing...
Thanks for all the input!!
RSS as a Piercing Bomb
-Pros
-- Long Range
-- Burst fire allows for multiple hits per target.
-- Higher damage potential than DBB
-- Combo with a Shivermist not only increases ease of use, may be the only way to hit beasts and fiends reliably.
-Cons
-- Targets weak to piercing often dodge making long range tactics futile. This is a HUGE weakness.
-- Effective use often requires placing the bomb and leading targets so that the bomb detonates under a target.
RSS as a Elemental Bomb
-Pros
-- Long Range
-- Burst Fire allows for multiple hits per target. I've hit 2 zombies 8 times with one bomb in stratum 6 as the shards have a small explosion on hit.
-- Higher damage potential than DBB
-- Zombies can be taunted into pouncing on this bomb. The combined damage is easily enough to one shot them even at stratum 6 if all 8 shards hit.
-- Constructs and Zombies are often big and slow, while constructs aren't weak to it, they're easy to hit with multiple shots. Gun puppies often taking 2-3 shards of damage. 4-5 if against a wall.
-- Combo with a Shivermist increases ease of use.
- Cons
-- Best placement of the bomb is tedious and promotes a high risk high pay off game style.
-- Outclassed by a Polaris in FSC.
DBB vs. RSS
-Pros
-- Without projectiles this bomb is much easier to use against gremlins and fiends.
-- Doesn't require pairing with Shivermist and will usually do higher DPS.
Cons
-- Unreliable in mixed company. Constructs will completely ignore this bomb and make using it a gamble.
Having said all that. Having Shiver, RSS, and DBB isn't a bad idea if you like bombs. Using with a Acheron is especially effective as it allows a bomber to have some close range ability and covers Slimes and gremlins well, two of monsters bombers sadly lack a true DPS bomb for. However, if you had to pick just one... Hmm... RSS, it's cheaper and can be paired with Acheron to effectively cover it's weaknesses. But both are very viable and depend largely on your play style and what you need them for.
PS. DBB rips fiends apart like no one's business, but RSS does the same to zombies. It's truly beautiful to see either of these bombs working their magic on the two. I can't say this enough times. Just... Wonderful.
I don't agree on some points :
- no, RSS, doesn't have a higher damage potential than DBB. As I said, RSS is limited to 8 shards. DBB is not limited at all, as long as you can fit enemies in the area. (Plus, it's way easier to setup) Or you mean single target dps, which is another thing.
- the combo with shivermist would be a con, not a pro. Requiring something is never a pro.
As for "unreliable in mixed company", RSS is in the same boat, as every non-normal weapon. That's not a good argument to compare 2 non-normal weapons.
Also, DBB absolutely rip through huge mass of zombies. As an aoe bomb, it's not meant to pick-off lone mobs. RSS is the exception here.
I think he meant damage per single monster. However, you do make a good point that DBB can hit multiple monsters at once, so it's really good for overall crowd damage. Shivermist is one option, but how about the vortex bomb pairing? (Either solo w/ both bombs, or with a partner who has the other bomb)
I have a DBB prefer the AoE on the blast over the random spread of projectiles, is garranteed to hit. Ive never used the RSS but I have ran across a few useing it in lock down or should I say trying to use it. If it hits it does decent damage but more often than not its just a nice light show.
