Hehe, he played fairly well at least. But the heart pendants definitely make a big difference when everyone around him is dead on the ground and he's still got hearts to spare.
I've actually recently started paying attention to how many health bars I take off people when I hit them with my shards. Granted the display is pretty coarse compared to what actual numbers might show, but it's looking like each shard takes off 3 pips (2 elemental, 1 pierce) from dusker/chroma/brute jelly, and 4 pips off basically anyone else (anyone in 2* gear, split gear, or shadow gear; I suppose someone in full elemental 3* might be only 1 elemental and 2 pierce pips. I haven't seen anyone show up in full drake scale, but I assume I'd be screwed in that case). The odd thing is that in the clockworks each scattered pip corresponds to half a heart, but in LD it seems to correspond to a full heart since 3 shards seems to be about average for taking down an enemy (9-12 hearts of damage) without heart trinkets.
I really hope the shards get a full shadow and/or full elemental line. I'd be able to take 4 pips off pretty much everyone then.
I feel that lockdown would be more balanced without trinkets. You either end up fighting some hardcore player with double heart trinkets or with max asi/max dmg skolver that tends 2 shot anyone with a toothpick if they dont have a heart trinket. This is speaking in terms of tier 3 of course. Nonetheless nice video again.
Well, it's always been expensive to be competitive in T3 LD, and theoretically the craftable heart trinkets makes it more affordable rather than less, given that it only takes 150 krog tokens and 2 5* crafting line fees in energy, mats and crowns to make a pair of them, rather than having to spend, like, 100kce to buy them off someone lucky enough to get a love puppy drop.
It would be cheaper if there were no trinkets allowed. It would be cheaper if no UVs were allowed. It would be cheaper if everyone got to use the same weapons and armor without crafting them for themselves.
At the end of the day I think introducing craftable heart trinkets was the right answer. For T2 at least it's very inexpensive to craft a pair of try-hard trinkets, given it only costs 200CE and 120 tokens/12 enamorock and some misc crowns and mats. That's not really a lot on top of the 30-40k you'd spend getting a dusker set, swift flourish and/or shockburst on the AH, assuming you didn't already have a few similar items laying around in your inventory already.
This ain't IROC or NASCAR, this is Le Mans or Rally B. You bring the best you can squeeze into your class. I just watched Exiledredd dance around a couple guys and destroy them with a final flourish moving at mach 4. I myself bring CTR max VT and a penta/tetra combo that'll be fixed when I have the CE.
If you don't want to put down the CE for heart pendants, you don't want to be T3 competitive. It's a small amount of my SK gaming time, and I'm crafting the hearts for fun. If you're the type of player that plays LD alot, arm yourself to fight.
the argument of skill vs. gear is moot. 1) this game is completely gear-driven, and 2) the lag and latency of this game precludes any type of fair common ground in LD. I get ground to dust by people who get the pleasure of playing with 4 bars and 5ms latency, even if they're less geared than me.
Actually, playing mainly as a Guardian in T3 LD, I don't really feel the need for heart pendants. Even without them, i still have at least the same health of a buffed striker, plus my shield (can take at least 2 hits from any hard hitting weapon). Currently, i'm doing fine with double ASI trinkets (because shielding fast IS a big deal to me).
As for buffed striker, now they need 3 GF hits instead of 2 to die. It may not look like it's a big deal, but it is. The good ones are very annoying to hit due to constant moving (constant 200ms lag doesn't help).
As for recon, they get from 3 to 4 GF hits with heart pendants.
At the end of the day, LD would be more fair without heart pendants altogether, but that's not going to happen. I bet OOO didn't anticipate Ld when they did love puppies.
You played T3 Nicoya. I think it would be fun to go against or with you.
@Vescrit Once I get around to crafting an RSS and buy the other piece of ancient plate I might give it a whirl. I'd like to also get a nitronome, but I'll probably jump in and give it a try before I do. Right now I have shockingly few 5* pieces.
LD is about skill, which I have lots of. How did I get my trinkets? With skill in LD. You can't say someone is good at something just because they are rich enough for good gear. Besides, I'm 4-5 strand I've never bought packs with real money. SKILL. All you people who believe me, you believe the right thing.
Lol bloodbattles.
I played him earlier today.
He's pretty much only good due to his pendents.
He got trashed pretty bad when someone in full dusker ,2 triheart pendents, and a shockburst came along.
