Name: Radiant Reflector
Star: 3
Type: Shield
The Radiant Reflector (short: RR) is a shield that can reflect exactly TWO bullets towards the direction your character are facing at the time of contact. Upon contact with any projectile or melee attack, the shield will take high damage, so much that if one wants to reflect TWO bullets, the shield will break. This means the shield can safely deflect only ONE shot.
Positives:
The shield can be used to reflect deadly missiles or shots in risky situations, such as during the many missile obstacles in the Ironclaw Munitions Factory. As deflections are limited and shield recharging takes awhile, it would be a help to getting through the lair without compromising the lair's difficulty. Even when used against the bosses, particularly against the Roarmulus Twins, it can only be used effectively and safely by deflecting the last set of missiles, then dodging the many bullets that come after, in conjunction of facing the right way.
Negatives:
The RR can handle only two shots (one really, safety), limiting its potential for endless utility. It loses out to the other shields because of its lack of defense, and the fact that it is a 3* weapon, and cannot be used to get into T3. It may become a specialty shield, like the Swiftstrike Buckler, but with a bit more utility.
How OOO can make money:
The shield is a special weapon, and its reflective properties would cause many to buy them for end-game/boss-running the Ironclaw Munitions Factory. Because it is a 3* shield, players will never buy it as the all-purpose shield, but will still want to buy it for its helpful properties. This means players will spend more money to buy this new weapon, thus causing players to buy CE to buy crowns to buy the weapon, as is the case with every update that needs any type of in-game currency to buy any content. Also, unlike continuations of lines or new branches, the RR is a stand-alone weapon, thus deepening the non-permanent crown sink with its recipe & alchemy cost.
Predicted Reaction to the New Content:
The public will be slow to adopt it, as with any new weapons, DEPENDING ON HOW YOU RELEASE IT. If you release it, say, as a secret drop from treasure chests, people will naturally spend (and buy?) more CE to get that weapon by going through elevators in the Clockworks over and over again. If you release this way, demand for it will be higher because it becomes more rare.
Amount of Work Required to Implement:
Not too hard, I hope. It should require only repainting a texture over a shield model, on the graphics side. On the code side, there is no need for calculation of angle or speed of the reflected bullet. If it is really needed, one could design a special ("radiant-themed"?) bullet that would appear from the shield upon contact with a bullet. The bullet would simply fire in the direction the character is facing. By not simulating bounce, there would be less calculation, and therefore less latency caused. I might imagine that the code for this might be similar to the Divine Avenger/Faust's charge attack, with their specially created bullet or so.
the idea of reflecting MISSILES i say no... have the shield have a clause "low chance to reflect enemy energy projectile" and have the shield be as strong as a swiftstrike shield, then is becomes plausible.
