So you do think spiral knights is getting bigger each and every month? I'm starting to see a lot of new names around and new guilds forming the past month or two. Anyway we can get an official response? What do you guys think?
Do you think spiral knights population is increasing? (ignore the fact that stream had a promotion going on yesterday)
The Elevator Pass is a rather significant answer to the single biggest barrier of entry for newer players, so it isn't entirely unsurpising.
Yes.
That is my answer
TBH reality I have no idea, but I don't want more begging noobs and more people whining because they don't understand the game mechanics.
On the up-side a new recruit joined our guild and is actually very nice to have. Hes Ultimatuim so if you see him say hi! :D
The easiest way to check is to watch the number of havens. Based on only that, the SK population has been slowly dropping for months. A more detailed way is to check the number of havens, plus the number of people in each gate (that is shown when you look at the gate in the arcade), plus the number of people actually playing PvP (people waiting are in haven). Based on the various times I've checked, that value is also slowly decreasing.
The decrease has continued even over last month, when the elevator pass was first made available. SK is now down to about the level as before it was released on Steam. If this trend continues, within a month or two, it will be at its all time low since it was released to the public.
As far as new players/guilds, well, sure, there are indeed a lot of new players coming into SK, just not as many as are leaving.
Now, lower player numbers does not mean that OOO is making less money. Since the game went public, OOO has done a *LOT* to increase the amount of money they get from players. They appear to be converting the game from the F2P model, similar to Puzzle Pirates, and into a quasi-subscription model.
Cuz like TF2 - game is being updated often + advertising + steam trade system (for those businessmen lol) + it's free game.
And it has been going on for months. Reason: lack of new boss, Tier 4 and the Core. Shadow Lairs, while interesting, are lagging to most people and too pricey to be afforded by the majority. Lockdown is broken (see the other threads). That and many people are anticipating Diablo 3 (which should be released in months). Shadow key / lockbox / accessories / silver keys are poorly executed.
I think the bottom line here is that, even we have elevator passes, we are still looping over and over the old contents. Giving out gimmicks aren't the way to keep old players (you may attract new players, but the rate of gaining is far less than rate of losing players). So only way to save this is, new content (not recycled maps or bosses).
Or you could just check how many people are playing on steam. Granted not everyone plays on steam, but it's a reasonable proxy for the game population trend in general.
Ah, forgot you can check that way Nicoya. I wonder where SK peaked yesterday.
Or you could just check how many people are playing on steam
D'oh! good point. See: http://steamgraph.net/index.php?action=graph&appid=99900&from=0
That graph shows that the decline has leveled off in the last month or so, but then, there were a few other plateaus previously.
Why do people say that the elevator passes and energy prices keep new players from playing? That's but outright dumb...not trying to troll or anything, but energy isn't nearly as influential as people think...
I started SK when energy was at 7.7k...and I'm doing just fine still today. All you have to do if your a newbie is just look for a helpful, experienced person to explain to you about the market. That's what I did. (I give a thankful shout out to Tiren for his help)
Currently, my income is somewhere around 80-100k a week without even paying or going into the clockworks, so its not hard to make a "living" in this game. If you are, then think about merchanting and bartering.
That's my opinion. I think if people would just play the game as it is, adjust, don't whine, then the population would skyrocket!
well hopefully with this new deal and it being christmas break, this will get more ppl interested
Also, vacations. People having more free time.
